Hey guys,

Well, I figured I should start a build thread on my project. I don't have any current shots available but this is what she looked like when I got her home.

It is a straight 6, 44000 mile '69 Cutlass. The damn thing was so rust free that it pissed me off he stole the good fenders and doors off it for his 442 he would later sell! :bang :bang Anyway, it is a saffron yellow car and that is the way it will stay. It iwll be cloned into a W31 and receive all the goodies appropriate to the model. Eventually it will look like this...hopefully...but with poverty caps! :rock :rock

Not a bad score for $1200 and a 10 minute drive from my house!!!

That's what I am shooting for...work has been horrible. So much crap going on I am losing my mind. I am usually beat by the time I get home....but that can't be an excuse!!! :bang

Unfortunately I am losing the Saffron Yellow color battle with my fiancee. She hates the color and wants Burgandy mist...along this line:

Not sure I can argue with her either... :shrug :shrug :shrug

Here's some shots of the engine that will go in the W-31. This was in its original race form...Obviously for Supercar's it will be a little less flamboyant and lot more stealth :zip

Oh yea....and slightly a different color...haha...and manifolds...and Q-jet....and...and....

More to come!

Alrighty...more progress! Tonight I realized something I might as well get used to. While laying on the cold floor working out the bellhousing bolts my back stiffened up so bad I couldn't get out from underneith the car!!! :bang

Eventually I was able to stretch it out enough to crawl out but man...getting older sucks! I am so cautious with my back after slipping a disk a few years back that any little thing freaks me out. Its really weird, pick up a transmission....nothing. Bend down to pick up a quarter...HOLY CRAP!!!! :sick

Anyway, enough complaining, on to the pics!

Engine is out and on the stand. Tomorrow I start stripping everything and begin the color transformation and make it a little more factory appearing! I am also starting the cam swap as well. :cross :cross :cross

Getting ready to rock and roll!

Image

Hooked up and ready for the ride!

Image

I can see my house from here!!!

Image

Whew, glad that's over...

Image

Tomorrow is another day and more time for progress....May is getting closer!!!

Stay Tuned!

Hey Guys,

Haven't posted in a while...work has been really rough last few weeks. We had a massive layoff today...luckily I made it out the other end. As a result my workload exploded...good thing...but I haven't touched the Cutlass in a while...bad thing.

That being said, I REALLY want to do a sweet job with this thing so I am planning to do some updates in the next couple of days. I will, however, be withdrawling the car from the May race. I just don't see it getting anywhere close to being drivable by then. Biggest issue being that I haven't had an opportunity to really touch the Q-jet at all to tune it to the cam...which is considerably funky. I also want to get this thing out on the track so I can make some runs since it will have a considerable amount of power for the tiny tires...you guys are nuts!!! :rock :rock :rock

Stick with me for a little longer...I promise I will put some updates on in a day or two and will make a race (WITH A CAR) soon!!!

Who knows, maybe hell will freeze over as well... :cross :cross :cross

Thanks,
Dave

Dave take your time, We are not going anywhere. We will be here for the long time and will have many more races for you to attend. Keep us posted on your build. Give us input and come out to any races that you can attend and support.

Well, slight bit of progress actually! While getting to the May race may be a push, I have been getting some things done on it surprisingly over the past few days. Got the '69 intake cleaned and painted up, started going through the carb. Plan on stripping down the engine this weekend and hopefully getting the new cam installed.

Pics to follow soon!

Dave

Little mini update here.

Got the '69 SB Olds intake cleaned up and ready for action...still have to go back and do some "tweaking" but you get the idea.

Image

Also, started working on gutting the fuel pump for "appearance". :aok It was a junky stocker that I don't feel bad hackng up and it cost me nothing. :rock Got everything out of it and will be anodizing the top surface for prettiness and correct appearance and will be adjusting somethings internally.

Also, distributor showed up this week :aok Much more to follow tomorrow.

Thanks!
Dave

I just gutted a holley mechanical just so I did have to deal with the stamped together fuel pump thing. So much easier. Something I continue to learn over and over again. I was rushing all day today to get the car done because it was such a nice day and everytime you try to rush NOTHING goes right. It goes together as it will. :beer
