Hello, does anyone have any ideas on how I can clean my engine compartment? I've tried soap and water, as well as "Gunk" engine cleaner and GOJO, but that dirt and grit is stubborn.

Are you able to get your hands on a steam cleaner that will do the trick in nothing flat. I borrow one from the shop next to me and it cuts grease like butter.

My neighbor might have a steam cleaner...I'll him visit later today and ask!

Sometimes a pressure washer will remove a lot of grime. Try brake cleaner, Castrol's Super Clean and degreaser that is used in parts washers. Steam cleaning works the best.

Amigos, I just put in a good 4 hours of work in to the engine compartment and it seems to be coming along slowly I ran out to wally world and pepboys and picked up a gallon size of Super Clean engine degreaser, Simple Green, aerosol cans of Brake cleaner, brushes in different sizes and some cleaner wax, oh yeah and some 3M scratch remover.

The brake cleaner and simple green worked well for the K member with years of grease and dirt. The painted surfaces were a real pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The brake cleaner and brushes weren't doing anything, so I ended up using the engine degreaser mixed with water in a bucket and steel wool...sometimes fine and sometimes course steel wool. It worked great! It's slow but it allows for good control of what you're cleaning. Then I went over it with the cleaner wax and whoop there it is. A lot of work...but well worth it! My neighbors probably think I'm crazy :D
