I'm adding a holley blue fuel pump in series with my mechanical pump. I was going to hide the pressure regulator under the alt. but upon review it will be too visible there. So I know you want it as close to the carb as possible, but there is no place to hide it between the mechanical pump and the carb. Has anyone mounted a regulator after the electric pump but right before the mechanical pump. The gauge I will use to set the pressure will be temporarily installed right before the carb. I can't think of any reason why it won't work, but wondering if anyone has had problems doing it. Thanks. :gears

put the reg. before the stock pump or you will have a dangerous condition, and a mess at the least!

Can't weigh in on this one. I ran a Mallory 110 self regulating with no mechanical pump. Seemed to work fine with what I was doing and it didn't sound like blender in the back of the car.

I would guess on the frame rail just aft of the firewall would be the best compromise.

I never liked the idea of an electric feeding a mechanical. If the diaphram in the mech tears you are just going to pump gas into your oil pan. I had an old carter pump bolted to the motor that I gutted and installed a blanking plate.

I bought the same pump and regulator. It should arrive Tuesday, I will let you know how I make out.

I did the same as Chris because I had the stock fuel pump leak into the oil and spun bearings. :bang :sick I also gutted a mechanical pump and fed the hose right to the outlet of the stock pump and mounted the regulator to the frame rail under the passsenger floor. I have heard that someone makes a new electric fuel pressure gauge that attaches to the fuel regulator so you can have the gauge in your car.

Autometer has had this for a while...as much as I hate to promote Jegs or the like, look in their catalog and you can find it in the gauge section then order it from your local speed shop! :aok

Ok, Now I'm thinking of ditching the mechanical pump. I have an old one. just cut the pump arm off flush. Make a plate to go between the the housing and the block. Here's the question. Why can't I just plumb it like it was functioning. Then if then diapham fails the fuel will stay in the now blocked off pump housing. both check valves in the mechanical pump will be held open by the pressure of the electric pump. Hmm The old pump is crimped together if I remember correctly

That would be fine too. I used one of the Carters that have a screw together housing. I made a plate that went between the top and bottom this way I bypassed even the check valves.

Make sure to use the rubber gasket to insulate the blue pump to the bracket and them make a thicker rubber gasket from the bracket to the frame/car. It will make it alot quieter. The block off plate for the motor from MR gasket or... is really cheap.

Never mount the fuel pressure regulator on the firewall. It must be at least 6" in front of it.

I gutted the mechanical, made a plate to isolate the bottom half of the pump and it's running. first started at idle about 5 lbs. adjusted the reg to get 8lbs at the carb. Took it for a ride. runs fine. get back after about 25 min ride and have about 5lbs at idle now. adjust the reg to get back to between 7 and 8lbs. The pump is loud, I have the rubber between the pump body and the bracket and between the bracket and the mount. The mount I made uses the top shock mounts so it uses the shock rubber too.
I think it will get much quieter I think my mount is touching the floor in one small spot. I'll tweek it tomorow.

In all honesty...the Holley Blue is just plain loud. I have used other Holley pumps that are WAY quieter than that thing so I will NEVER go back to them. Mallory Pumps, from what I have heard, are quite a bit quieter.

Glad to hear you got it running though!!! :cheers

When I told my wife that the pump is loud she told me there's nothing quiet about the car. I have to be able to drive the car anywhere. If I have to worry about anything other than the cost of fuel, it's not right. I'll probably get a cheap mechanical to carry in the car. :gears

MFCHASSIS, is the 6 " rule a fire safety thing or a physics lesson on pressure vs acceleration
