Well most of you know that Scott Pierce got rid of his 1969 Olds F-Eightyfive W-31 earlier this year. He ended up with a beautiful numbers matching 1970 Cutlass W-31 post coupe 4-speed car. Actually Scott and Wayne Shipley from Maryland traded cars. We did the swap on one of the coldest days in January this year. Wayne did a full rotisserie frame off restoration on the 70 W-31 with no expenses spared but didn't quite finish the process. It's painted and needs glass, external chrome, bumpers, interior and drive train installed. That's when I stepped in and persuaded Scott to re-rebuild the engine (yes that right) with Super Car Racing in mind!!!! I'd like to keep you guys in the loop on this project. I'll post more pics as more work gets completed. Check out the engine build in the Tech Inspection Forum

Ralph,

Basically it's a 350 Olds engine with 325 horsepower which was only available on the Cutlass/F85 model and the S body style.

Engine:
All the W-31 engines were "select-fit" assembled. Cylinder bores were honed to the "D" spec. and used "A" pistons resulting in a larger skirt clearance of .003" - .0035".
10.5 comp. ratio true flat top pistons
#6 heads fitted with large 2" intake and 1.625" exhaust valves.
Camshaft was 308 degree duration with a .474" lift.
Matching heavy duty valve springs.
Special recalibrated Q-Jet carb.
Larger harmonic balancer.
Special factory W-350 Aluminum intake.
6 blade fan with a fan clutch.
All were Force-Air inducted which included the ram air hood and air cleaner
Exhaust manifolds were the same as the standard 350. But BOTH exhaust pipes and mufflers were 2 1/4" inlets (2" outlet).

Body:
Mandatory Ram air induction hood and ram air cleaner
special clam shell shaped sport mirrors painted body color
wide side body stripes

Will add more info soon

Scott, if you don't win it won't be because of the quality of the build and resto. Very nice work! Post more pictures...

Beautiful car, not being an expert on Oldsmobiles I have a question regarding the W31 cars; should they have the same notched rear bumper as the 442?
