After Chryslers @ Carlisle I decided it was time to get the 1971 Road Runner ready for the 1320. I have owned the Road Runner for 9 years using it as a cruise / show car. The car is from Colorado. A complete nut and bolt Restoration was perfromed by the previuos owner. I always had issues with the clutch and Hemi 4 Spd. Every time you attempted to power shift the tranny, the Road Runner would not enjoy the experience :bang .

Here are some pics from the past couple of years.

Check out the picture of Lon taking the Road Runner to a Mopars In Motion Car Show :aok .

This summer I called Billy Atwood over at Auto Services Of Old Saybrook (A SuperCar Sponsor ) about the issues I was having with the tranny and my plans. Billy recommended a full rebuild, shifter upgrade and clutch change. At the Mopar Nationals we visited Brewers and purchased all the parts needed to bring the tranny up to snuff.

Now that the tranny is ready for some abuse :gears . The plan is to take it to the track in the spring and get a base line E/T. Then a Pypes 2.5 inch mandrel bent exhaust upgrade followed by track time, a carb rebuild and tune with promax plates, again followed by track time, and last a cam change. I will be documenting every upgrade / change in this post.

In 1971 as you know you can go black or body color with the wheels. I am not a fan of black wheels on a car other than a black car :sick . I am most likely going to keep the rallyes for now. I love Rallyes :aok . I am thinking about painting a set of wheels blue in the future. (I sold most of the extra wheels I had to racers. I need to get some more.)

Thanks Andy, It's time to enjoy the 71 RR on the 1320. How have you been? Any new work on your GTX? Take a look at the 2010 Schedule. You should find more than a couple of events that may work for you. Chryslers @ Carlisle is on for 2010.

Killer color combo and of course the six pack rocks :hungry But I must say the black wheels do look sweet. It gives a mean look like every race car should have!
