Ooh! Ooh! (insert Arnold Horshack impersonation here). I think I might know this one! In 1974 there was a GSX option available on the Apollo. The base engine was a Chevy 250 inline 6 cylinder. I'm not sure of the horsepower, but I'll guess it was somewhere between 3.5 and 112 Horshack power. :cross

What year did Chevy build a special nova version designed to go road racing, and what was its one huge distinguishing feature?

Bill

Corning glass, good one

Tough one, Bill. The only road racing Nova I can think of is Dan Spiegel's '66 Chevy II.

I thought the '63 Fastback Nova was something that was built at the Bill Thomas shop and not produced by Chevrolet.

You had me intrigued so I looked this up: According to NovaResource, there were 3 1963 Fastback Novas created by Chevrolet including fiberglass body panels and Corvette independent rears specifically for road racing. They were then shipped to Bill Thomas for completion. Chevy nixed factory sanctioned racing before they ever raced. Cool stuff.

Supposedly Chevrolet gave the cars to Bill Thomas after they pulled the plug on the road racing program for services rendered. That's how they ended up at the drag strip.
