What if you went back in the day, what would you have ordered and kept?

Awesome Dart.

I've thought about this question before. I think I might have ended up w/ a black Charger R/T or a GTX - 69 or 70 (six barrel versions if possible). Also, w/ automatic w/ Dana 60 option - nothing like overkill!

Looking over the fence at the other dealerships, I suspect a 442 (Hurst Edition) or a Buick GS, Stage 1, of course, might have been in the equation too. I have been a banker all my life, so it has always had to be a car I could drive to the office as well in my uniform (suit).

That logic was how I ended up w/ my Grand National too as my first brand new car....worked out ok

When I was a kid, I always wanted a full size Chevy big block 409 or later a 427 with a stick. Hey wait a minute! I actually got one. I bought mine in 1969 and still got it. :-D

Looking back though, my first exposure to drag racing was Connecticut Dragway when I was in high school. I was into the A/FX and Super Stock cars like the Black Arrow, Old Reliable, Tasca Ford etc. My fantasy be to would own examples of lightweight factory race cars from that era 1961 thru 1964 Pontiacs, Chevy's, Fords, and Mopars. I love em all.

A neat question...Here's a couple of thoughts:

If I had what I have today in terms of income and knowledge, and I wanted to go fast down the quarter mile with the fewest headaches, I would have to go for a '70 Buick GSX Stage 1 or an A12 'Bee or 'Runner...Of course, if future collectibilty was in mind, I'd gobble up as many LS6's, Boss 429's and Hemi e-body 'verts as my garage would hold...maybe build a bigger one!

In the real world however, if I was lucky enough to be plopped back into say, 1969, I was 18, and with a paper route paycheck, I would be forced to spend my $$ the smartest way possible. After researching the offerings of the day and doing the math, I think I would opt for a '69 Road Runner. It could go an honest 100 mph in the quarter, for just a few ticks over $3000.00. Fast as possible for as little as possible - bang for the buck. My second choice would be an S/CRambler - same concept - make mine a "B" scheme thank you...

Although a Tri-power '66 Goat would be nice too...
