SuperCars & SuperStars
at the 2009 Frank Marratta
Auto Show, Hartford Expo Center
February 6th, 7th & 8th, 2009
Recap by, Kay Frame

Every winter, in the middle of February in Connecticut, when winter is the coldest, a postcard for the Frank Marratta's Auto Show is sent to all the gear heads in the New England area. The postcard is filled with all the fixes a geared needs- Hot Rods, Cycles, Beauty Contests, Indoor Swap Meet and an invitation to come out and see the people that make the summers go by so quick. SuperCar Races, as in the past years, has been fortunate to be part of this great celebration. Come late December and early January, the calls go out to see who will bring out their great MuscleCars to be showcased in this display of American MuscleCar heritage.

This year, the SuperCar Display took on a new look. The focus was to showcase every brand. We wanted every marque to be part of our display. If you liked Pontiac, you were mesmerized by Jeremy's HO350. Chevy Fans spent hours looking over Seeb's 1966 Chevelle SS396. SuperCars had every end of the series covered. With Gary and Steve's Altered Wheelbase cars on one end of the display and the eye catching Viper to reel you into the display on the other end. We had it covered.

In 2009, plan on seeing John's 1970 Boss 302 become part of the Smoking Gun Club. With it's powerful Boss 302 and 4 Spd. Transmission, nothing will stand in the way of the record books for this newcomer to the SuperCar Series.

Seeb's 100 point 1966 Chevelle SS396 is correct in every aspect. This is what the Fans of the SuperCar Series are asking for every time they get a chance to field their questions. They are looking for Chevrolet Musclecars! With so many great combo's offered by Chevrolet, I am certain that in future years, you will see many great examples similar to Seeb's going head to head with the other manufacturers.

John's 1970 383 Super Bee, a SuperCars 12 Second Quick Gun Club, was a big hit. John didn't do what most that own a 1970 Mopar would have done, build a 6-Pack Clone. Instead, John decided to build a stroker Mid Block and by doing this, he has run away with the Record.

John's 1969 H/O 455, in SuperCars 13 Second Smoking Gun Club. John's H/O is very well known in the series and has been featured at all of the races in the 2008 season. John is looking to improve his E/T's in 2009. With Doc "Tony" Watson in the background tuning the H/O, 2009 will be one of the most memorable seasons for John.

Our Fully Stocked SuperCars Merchandise Table, Complete with Flat Screen TV playing all of the great past SuperCar Events. After Saturday nights record crowds, we sold out of all our merchandise by 9 PM. The new Plates, Classic T-shirts, and DVD's were a hit with the crowd. Steve Magnante's DVD, How To Build An Altered Wheelbase In 90 minutes, was a hit.

Dalton's 1967 Mustang 289 may be a Smoking Gun Club member by the end of the first race in April. Dalton's efforts to make this year's display come to life were welcomed and appreciated, not to mention the Saturday night Chinese run that we all appreciated. Thank you, Dalton, for your hard work and commitment to the SuperCar Series.

Ed's 1969 Quickest 6 BBL Ever RoadRunner, SuperCars 11 Second Big Gun Club member. Ed's Road Runner needed no introduction. We could've sold tickets to take a closer look at his record holding Road Runner.

Jeremy's 1969 HO 350 LeMans, SuperCars 13 Second Smoking Gun Club member, was on hand all weekend long fielding questions about his combo and success in the series. In 2009, Jeremy has decided to become the next Quick Gun Club member, with his HO 350 LeMans. Jeremy shared some secrets that he will be putting in place for the first Race, Ice Breaker III on April 4th at E-Town, NJ. In 2009, Look for Jeremy to campaign his new 1970 Tempest T-37 400 by the end of the season.

The 1966 Belvedere I HP2, owned by SuperCar ShootOut Founder Ralph Barbagallo, is ready for the 2009 season and was unveiled at this event. Ralph's HP2 is ready to reach Top Gun Club member status by the end of this season. The HP2 took top honors at the show this year, receiving top Restored Early and Best of the Best recognition by this years Show Judges.

The crowd had many SuperCars to cheer about, including Gary's 1965 HEMI Belvedere "AFXer". Last year, Gary took top honors at the Frank Marratta's Auto Show, receiving awards for Best of the Best and Best Mopar. This year, Gary displayed his Altered alongside a new racer to the SuperCar Series, but not a stranger to the hobby, Steve Magnates 1965 Chevy II, powered by a 502 Semi Hemi. Steve was on hand on Sunday signing autographs and answering questions by his many admirers from the area. Bruce's Eye Candy 2004 Viper R/T 10. When Bruce brought home this eye popping SportsCar, we knew it had to be part of the SuperCar display. You see, eye candy is always needed to bring the crowd's attention into focus.
