The first weekend of April, Atco New Jersey, this is the when and where that starts the 2019 Championship run for one of the nearly 60 racers out to vie for it. With nearly twice the racers as last year, getting points and wins is much more challenging. Race one, the SuperCar Shootout Ice Breaker XIII finds 18 of the musclecar eras finest sitting in the pits, including five former champs and two 10 second proven racers. But after the three qualifying passes it was the 11 second 1970 Plymouth GTX of team Atwood sitting atop the order with an 11.33 @ 122.52. filling out the rest of the Quick 8 are Freddy Rodriguez, Bryan Doyle, Tom TARZWELL, Mark Sikora, Ralph Barbagallo, RHETT Moody and Hal Oaks with a 12.05. During the qualifications runs both the killer 1969 Nova SS of TED DAROS and the 67 Firebird 400 of Mark Pickett were unable to continue.

Image2019-12-21_12-09-47 by cudadude2, on Flickr

Topping the second Quick 8 is the 383 Road Runner of Bill DiCicco, posting a 12.23 @ 112. The rest of the second 8 consisted of Greg Whitney, Jacob Marquis, Dom D'Alonzo, Anthony Mauro, Dave Marquis, Jacob Martinez and the 2+2 of Jack Anderson that capped the field with a qualifying run of 13.97. That is 18 stock appearing musclecars all running on skinny tires and all running sub 14 second times, what a great group for the first race of 2019

First into the staging lanes are the cars of the second Quick 8 putting the number 9 qualifying Road Runner of DiCicco against the 1967 Firebird 400 of Anthony Mauro who placed in the 13 seat. Anthony's Bird ran a good 13.13 @ 109 but finished behind the 12.15 of the Plymouth. Watch for Anthony to drop a full second over the season as he gets a handle on his Firebird.

Image2019-12-21_12-09-40 by cudadude2, on Flickr

The next pairing to come to the tree features the two Jacobs. Higher seated Jacob Marquis in his 1979 Trans Am with the lane choice over Jacob Martinez peddling his 73 Stage 1 Buick. The big Century ran a strong 13.48 at 101 MPH which kept him close to the T/A for much of the track till it's 114 mile an hour speed pulled a gap and posting a 12.48.

Greg Whitney finds himself in an unfamiliar position of being in the second 8. Usually a top 2 car having run well into the 10 second zone, Greg had some difficulties during qualifying leaving him with a matchup with Dave Marquis 1968 Firebird 400 rag top. Dave's 12.86 while stout was going to be no match for Greg's 66 Chevelle if he gets a handle of the track/car combo. Well Mr Whitney found a little grip and stormed to an 11.35 @ 127 putting Dave out.

A pair of four speeds pull into the beams to finish off the first round of the second 8. Dom D'Alonzo shifting his 327 Impala takes the higher seat over the big bad Pontiac of Jack Anderson. D'Alonzo keeping his small block solidly in the 12's runs a 12.75 outdistancing the 2+2 of Anderson and his 13.85.

The second round starts out with the Younger Marquis' 1979 Trans Am and it's Pontiac 400 pitted against the 1968 Plymouth of DiCicco. What has been a rivalry for the past year with both cars being quicker on difference days making this anyone's race. At the stripe DiCicco's Road Runner crosses first 12.18 to 12.48 putting the Mopar into the finals n

Looking to meet the Plymouth in the finals are Dom D'Alonzo's 63 Impala and Greg Whitney's 66 Chevelle SS. The big block 66's 11.05 took away any doubt as to who the winner would be.

In the Second 8 Finals DiCicco blew any chance he may have had against Greg by going .002 red before running a person next of 12.13. Though Whitney had some issues at the line he still passed the Plymouth at the line with an 11.71 @ 127.

After Saturdays races several of the SUPERCARS in attendance had photoshoots done. Some have already appeared in magazines and web features and more will. Just another perk of racing in the SuperCar Shootout.

With the second Quick 8 settled it's time for the big race to get started. Top seated Team Atwood's 6 Bbl GTX comes to the tree to face 5th seated Mark Sikora in his sinister black 69 383 Road Runner. Atwood storms down track to the tune of an 11.37 while Sikora gets off early and coasts over the line.

Bryan Doyle pushes the clutch in as it lights the stage beams next to the 68 Formula S of Rhett Moody. Moody's 340 is used to punching above his weight but the Six Pack of Doyle was too much this time with an 11.41 to the small blocks 11.92.

Second seated Fast Freddy Rodriguez meets 6 seated Ralph Barbagallo driving the gorgeous B5 1970 AAR 'Cuda. It's trippel carbed small block tied to a pistol gripped shifts four speed pulled big mph. 118 on this run combined with an ET of 12.14. Good numbers but not enough to get passed the Nova of Rodriguez when he's running 11.37 at 120.

Image2019-12-21_12-09-28 by cudadude2, on Flickr

Finishing up the first round of the Quick 8 is Tom TARZWELL in his aero Charger and Hal Oaks in his little shoebox Chevy. Hal's light weight small block Chevy II is always a threat and quick off the line. Tom has a stumble in his HEMI Charger giving the Chevrolet an opening but Hal is unable to take advantage of is slowing to a 14 second ET letting Tarzwell off the hook though only going 12.87.

In the first final four of the season the 1971 CHALLENGER R/T 440 Six Pack four speed of Bryan Doyle faces the equally powered automatic GTX of the Bill's Atwood. The Plymouth cracks off an 11.37 quickly pulling away from the B7 Challenger who slowed to a 12.43.

In a battle of big block Chevy vs HEMI Freddy Rodriguez puts his pale yellow SS Chevy II against the Charger 500 of Tarzwell. In the race of the day Tom ran his Dodge hard lighting the scoreboard with a 11.40 while Freddy puts up an equally quick 11.37. Only Time quicker reaction times kept his race day alive getting the just a number ahead of the Chevrolet.

Image2019-12-21_12-09-21 by cudadude2, on Flickr

Saturdays finals are down to the 1970 Plymouth GTX, 440/6Bbl of the Atwood's and the 1969 HEMI Charger 500 of Tom Tarzwell. Both cars running deep into the 11's all day either car could pull this one off and take the points lead. Tom's greater mph, 125 wasn't enough to get that win however as the GTX was almost bracket raceresk marking an 11.28 at 122 to the Hemis 11.57.
ImageFB_IMG_1576948126169 by cudadude2, on Flickr

Anthony Mauro went into the Second 8 consolation finals where in an all Pontiac race he beat the 2+2 of Jack Anderson.

In the Quick 8 consolation finals Rhett Moody used a holeshot to get by the quicker AAR driven by Ralph Barbagallo.

Sunday April 7th the SuperCar guys reassemble in the Atco Dragway pits for the second race of the season. There's a slight changing of the guards as of few of yesterday's racers have gone to make repairs of fulfil other obligations and three new racers have entered the grid. Ray Garrison makes his SuperCar debut with his silver 1969 4 speed 440 powered GTX. Next to make his way to the pits is John Slaving and his 1969 RS-Z/28. This small block steamer wears the sweetest of white over black paint jobs. Third to add his car to the scoring sheets is the maroon 1968 383 Road Runner of Frank Hoefling. All in and accounted for there are 16 cars, two full Quick 8's ready to battle.

SuperCar is a season long points Championship, points are aquired in many ways but the biggest cache of points come from qualifying in the first Quick 8 so battling for those points is quite important. And when there are 4 racers within a tenth of a second fighting for 3 spots the excitement starts early.
Topping the qualifying is the 68 Chevy II of Freddy Rodriguez having run an 11.26 @ 121.75. Behind the Chevy are Bill Atwood, Tom Tarzwell, Bryan Doyle and Ralph Barbagallo. Behind them is where things got dicey. Rhett Moody got in with a 12.100 followed by Jacob Marquis, 12.115. Last to make the Quick 8 was Bill DiCicco posting a 12.119 Leaving Mark Sikora and his 69 Road Runner with the top spot in the Second 8 with his 12.165.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Behind Sikora is Anthony Mauro, Dom D'Alonzo, Dave Marquis, Ray Garrison, John Slavin, Frank Hoefling and Hal Oaks with an ailing Chevrolet.

After the excitement of qualifying it's now time for the second 8 to make its way on track starting with top qualifier Mark Sikora in his 383 Beep Beep. Up to face him is the similarly bodied GTX of Ray Garrison. Ray shifted his luxury Plymouth to a 12.67 just a carpentry behind the 12.21 of Sikora.
Dave Marquis made his way to the Christmas tree next in his green 68 Firebird 400. Next to him way an open lane where Hal Oaks' Chevy II should be. Dave takes it easy with a 13 second run right into the next round.
Dom D'Alonzo brings his 63 Impala into the beams with the 383 of Frank Hoefling in the competing lane. Dom shifts his big Chevy to a 13.10 covering the Plymouths 14.23 easily.
John Slavin is next to find his matchup, he with Anthony Mauro's Pontiac. The two F bodies shoot down track with the Firebird arriving first 12.82 to 13.83.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Round two of the Second 8 begins with top qualifier Mark Sikora up against Dave Marquis' Poncho. Mark went his best of the day printing a 12.07 on his time slip with Dave throwing in the towel with a 14.92.
The gold 67 Firebird 400 of Anthony Mauro comes in with lane choice o er the Chevy of Dom D'Alonzo. Dom's 13.26 wasn't going to get the D'Alonzo Chevy into the finals as Mauro went 12.58.

In the Second 8 Finals Sikora nearly matched his best running 12.08 to get the trophy over Anthony's 12.60

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

With the second 8 in the books it's time for the main event. The quickest eight cars in the pits line up to do battle on the quarter mile. Quickest of all in qualifying Freddy Rodriguez is first up against number 5 qualifier Ralph Barbagallo. Ralph shifted the small block and gave a valient effect posting an 11.87 @ 120 but just could get to the Chevys 11.43.
The Hemi 500 of Tom Tarzwell, the third seat is matched with the 7 th seated 79 Trans Am of Jacob Marquis. The Pontiac blasts a 12.10 while the Hemi cruised to an 11.41 and a birth into the second round.
Yesterday's winner Bill Atwood comes to the line favored over the 1968 340 Barracuda of Rhett Moody. Moody's Formula S posts a strong 11.93 just a hair behind the 6Bbl's 11.63.
The final spot in the second round will go to either the 440 Six Pack of Bryan Doyle or the 383 of Bill DiCicco. Going as form the 440 bested the 383 11.63 to 12.10.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

In a final 4 rematch of saterdays race Tom Tarzwell again faces off with the 396 of Freddy Rodriguez. Getting revenge for yesterday s holeshot defeat Freddy goes 11.60 giving himself lots of space between his Chevy II and the Chargers 11.92. Tom did redlight with a .008 RT.
Meeting the rat motored Duece in the finals will be the Atwood GTX. The Plymouth having gotten by the 71 Doyle Challenger in a close race. 11.56 just edging the Dodges 11.71.

Sundays big final brings the dark green 1970 Plymouth GTX of Bill Atwood and the pale yellow 1968 Chevy II of Freddy Rodriguez. Freddy qualified number one and has been the quicker all day. The GTX has proven to be quicker and has been 2 to 3 mph faster than the Chevy all day. It's anyone's race. With an 11.52 to an 11.69 the Plymouth takes it's second win in a row and finished off the Ice Breaker weekend undefeated.

Second eight consolation winner was Dom D'Alonzo over Dave Marquis

Quick 8 consolation winner was Rhett Moody over Jacob Marquis

The next two races scheduled to be run at New England Dragway in Epping New Hampshire fell victim to the rain gods and will be run later in the summer. Stay tuned.

Come May 25 all the serious SuperCar Shootout Racers came to Lebanon Valley Raceway for a bit of fun. Adding lots of modern muscle and some car show folks giving the racing a go. Letting people dip their goes into SUPERCARS is the best way to let them see the fun they are missing and this event consistently adds new racers.

Reassembling at Atco Dragway on the first of June the SuperCar crew are ready to go back to proper battle. Ten top notch musclecars are in the pits including new comer Robert LaPointe. Robert came with a white 1970 Dodge Challenger sporting a shaker hood scoop. Beneath the hood, Dodge's elephant hooked to an A844. A cool race car indeed.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

A good pedigree doesn't give you the top qualifying spot though, that went to TED DAROS. TED used Atco's track prep andtons of horsepower to blast a 10.79 ET with a trap speed of 128.59. Behind the Nova is the GTX of the Atwood's, the four speed AAR peddled by Ralph Barbagallo, the DiCicco Road Runner, Moody's Barracuda, Mauro's Firebird in his first Quick 8, Dave Marquis' Firebird and Ray Garrison in his stick shifted GTX in the 8 spot qualifying with a 13.60 @ 109.

With all the racers in their qualifying spots they pulled into the staging lanes for the first round. Lead pairing is Ted Daros' 69 396 Nova SS and Rhett Moody's scrappy Barracuda. Moody runs a solid 12.15 but is well behind Daros'Chevy's 10.78.
Ralph Barbagallo is next up being the higher sead to Dave Marquis' Firebird. Ralph drops the clutch and runs a 12.03 out running Dave and his Pontiacs 12.91.
Bill Atwood and Anthony Mauro are next up. Atwood welcomes Anthony to his first Quick 8 by putting a second and a quarter win on him, 11.41 to 12.65.
The last pairing are the pair of B bodies. Bill DiCicco and Ray Garrison. In a 383 vs 440 battle it was the 383 getting to the lights first 12.17 to the 4 speed X's 13.47.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The four cars in the consolation races close their hoods and stage up in the lanes. Rhett Moody leads the first pair go the line with Dave Marquis. With a 12.16 the Plymouth A body gets to the finish line ahead of the Pontiacs 36.46. It wasn't close.
Anthony Mauro and Ray Garrison stage up to see who will face Moody I the finals. Anthony has been quicker all day but Garrison's higher mph shows that Rays GTX has a lot more in it. At the finish line though it was Mauro and his 400 getting the win 12.82 to the Plymouths trailing 13.64. Rays 111 to 110 speed advantage shows that Garrison will be moving up the rankings in quick order.

Grabbing the point for winning the consolation race is Rhett Moody. Moody outran Mauro's Firebird 12.15 to an ever improving 12.81.

The final four in the main event begins with the dark green Nova of Ted DAROS and the B5 beauty driven by Ralph Barbagallo. Ralph gave it his all pushing the Plymouth to a 12.03, but against the brute power of the 396 it wasn't going to be enough. Ted continued his string of 10 second runs chalking up a 10.89 to put himself into the finals.
The bottom pair on the ladder is Bill Atwood and Bill DiCicco. DiCicco's 383 went a decent 12.07 but decent doesn't cut it when racing the Atwood GTX. Atwood went 11.40 and into the finals.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Ted Daros has been running in the 10's all day as he enters the final round. The Atwood's have been undefeated all season. This is looking to be a great final. At the green Atwood cuts a .009 light to get an early lead and shoots down the track with an 11.55. Somewhere right before the 1,000 foot Mark a roaring Chevy Nova slid past the Plymouth and into the winner's circle with still another 10 second run this one a 10.69.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Facing off in the best of three match race, old veteran racer Jack Anderson in his Pontiac 2+2 won the battle of four speed musclecars over rookie racer Robert LaPointe.

The last race before the summer break and there's a full feild of Detroit iron ready to go to eat. SuperCars is all about putting their racers into the best events on the east coast, sometimes that means we are part of a large show. Racing in front of huge cheering crowds is the best, but huge fields of cars sometimes means you only get 2 qualifying passes, or 1. Having just the one qualifier makes for interesting matchups. Making the most of that chaos was Ralph Barbagallo in the AAR 'Cuda grabbing pole position. Behind Ralph are Bill DiCicco, Freddy Rodriguez, and Rhett Moody finishing off the top half of the field. Ted Daros and his ailing Chevy still managed to grab fifth before having to call it a day. Anthony Mauro slots in sixth, Dave Marquis and Dom D'Alonzo round out the pack.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The 1-5 matchup brings Barbagallo to the stage beams with Ted Daros. Ted stages but lets the Plymouth go solo down track to the tune of a 12 flat.
Fast Freddy Rodriguez exits the staging lanes paired with the Firebird 400 of Dave Marquis. Freddie's Chevy is a consistent 11 second monster but is dealing with new tire woes, slowing to a beatable 11.90. Dave gave all his Pontiac F body had but was still a second behind.
Anthony Mauro and Bill DiCicco are the next twosome to stage up. Mauro's Pontiac is getting cositantly quicker round by round making his way through the 12 second zone. But Anthony tried to get an early lead and spun his Goodyear redlines giving DiCicco's Road Runner the win, 12.08 to 13.58.
Dom D'Alonzo found himself in the same situation and Mauro in the round before and did the same thing. After he was done smoking his whitewalls Dom crossed the finish line posting a 13.49 to the Moody fastback fish's 12.18.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Dave Marquis gets a free pass to the consolation finals by way of the bye as the Daros' Chevy is on its way home.
Vying to meet the 68 Pontiac in the finals are the evenly matched, high 12 second cars of Dom D'Alonzo and Anthony Mauro. Anthony continues his improving going 12.77 to Dom's four speeds slowing 16.14 making an all Pontiac final.
At the green the green Firebird of Marquis is first off the line with Mauro in hot pursuit. The gold Pontiac closing the distance between them inch by inch all the way to the stripe where Marquis still had a few inches to spare making his 12.91 hold up verse the 12.77 of Mauro giving Dave the consolation win.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The second round of the main event definitely didn't go by the book. Top qualifier Ralph Barbagallo first up to face the 1968 Chevy II of Freddy Rodriguez. Dropping the clutch and slamming the pistol grip shifted Barbagallo took a lead at the tree and tried to hang on. RODRIGUEZ having given up the jump trashed his 396 to an 11.75 in his effort to catch the small block Plymouth. But his attempt would be fruitless as Ralph hung on, winning with an 11.90.
Racing to gain access to the finals are the Plymouths of Bill DiCicco and Rhett Moody. At the green Moody went instantly into wheel spin coasting down track earning a 15 second slip, but because DiCicco went .015 red before going 12.11 Moody lucked his way to the finals.
The final round matchup of Moody and Barbagallo features two blue Barracudas, one auto one four speed, one four barrel one six barrel one A body one E. Both capable of 11 second times and both well driven. But only one ran an 11 on this run. Barbagallo drove the 70 Plymouth to an 11.82 giving himself a good gap back to the still quick 12.18 of Moody.

After a painfully long summer break the SuperCar Shootout crew returned to Atco Dragway in New Jersey for day one of the Fall Nostalgic Classic. Walking through the SuperCar pits it is obvious that no one was sitting on their laurals. Every car there had updated, upgraded or improved something on their racers. But untill they hit the track no one will know if the work done will show dividends on the time slips. To that point, Greg Whitney finished the qualifications with a new best of 10.62 seconds at nearly 131 mph. An 11.37 puts the Atwood GTX in second followed by Tom TNT Tarzwell, 11.58. Finishing off the top half of the ladder is Ralph Barbagallo posting an 11.80 @ 118 mph. The bottom half of the ladder find the DiCicco Plymouth ahead of the Moody Barracuda and the Pontiacs of Mark and Dave Marquis. Just outside the Quick 8 is the third Firebird in the pits, the 4 speed 68 of Andy Colling.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

With everyone given their respective competitors the SUPERCARS head to the lanes. Given the unenviable job of racing top qualifier Greg Whitney's ten second Malibu falls to Bill DiCicco and his 383 Road Runner. As expected the Chevy outruns the Bird 10.62 to 12.01.
The 69 Dodge Charger 500 used it's Hemi power to send the 400 Firebird of Anthony Mauro into the consolation race. Not that Anthony didn't put up a fight running a best for him of 12.50 but still a second behind Tarzwell.
The triple carburated Plymouth of Bill Atwood takes lane choice into the first round where Rhett Moody is waiting in his 68 Formula S. Moody's Plymouth has been off it's game as late and continues to struggle going just 12.30 whereas the bigger Plymouth did what it does turning in an 11.38 on its way to round two.
The final pair vying for a pass to the second round are the 4 speed 'Cuda shifted by Ralph Barbagallo and the improving 1968 Firebird convertible of Dave Marquis. The Pontiac lifts it's nose high and runs a solid 12.82 but the hard shifting Barbagallo stretches a second advantage over the Indian.

The racecars that participate in SuperCars must follow a very strict set of rules. Those rules can be found below.
http://supercarraces.com/2010rules.html

Having been religated to the consolation race the four cars of , Anthony Mauro, Bill DiCicco, Rhett Moody and Dave Marquis are all after the one point for winning it. First to the line are Bill DiCicco and Anthony Mauro. Anthony used his new found performance to light the scoreboard with a quick 12.68, but the Plymouth responded with a 12.07 putting it into the finals.
In the second Plymouth vs Pontiac matchup Rhett Moody made it two to zero for team Mopar when he went 12.33 ending Dave Marquis day when he ran a 12.81.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

In another final round between Moody and DiCicco with DiCicco still looking for a way to beat the Barracuda. Despite being quicker the last few events the fastback fish always gets the best of him. When the yellow lights flash both cars leave hard and fast, Moody .003 reaction time and DiCicco a .009. At the other end the lights say the Road Runner finally broke that 11 second barrier with an11.99 and the Barracuda 12.27. Did I mention that both those reaction times were negatives? Moody wins again.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The final four in the main event finds Greg Whitney matched with the Hemi 500 of Tom Tarzwell and the two 6 Bbl Plymouths of Atwood and Barbagallo. The Tarzwell Dodge made a race of it against top qualifier Whitney keeping it close throughout shooting an 11.52 to the Rat motors 11.41. Greg left the door to the finals open a crack but the Charger couldn't sneak through.
The B5 1970 'Cuda gave all it could but being the last small block standing will have to be enough for today. Ralph slowed a bit from earlier with a 12.11 ET while good can't match the big block power of the Atwood machine. The GTX fans an 11.50 and now just face the 10 second bright blue Malibu.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

In Saturdays final round Greg finds his groove and puts the Chevrolet back in the 10 second bracket blasting a 10.81 well out of reach of the points leading GTX of Atwood. The Plymouth ran a respectable 11.40 but was just outmatched on this day.

Sunday Sept 22 brings the SuperCar crew back to Atco for day two of The Nostalgia Classic. Fifteen performance machines built between 1965 and 1979 populate the pits. Now up to its sixth race SuperCar has its sixth top qualifier. Returning to the pits after the final Q runs the 1969 Dodge Charger 500 takes his first pole position. Running an 11.25 at 127 Tom wasn't gifted it by others underperforming. Second behind the big Hemi is the 6Bbl GTX of Bill Atwood followed by Bryan Doyle's Six Pack Dodge, and Ralph Barbagallo's AAR completing the top half of the Quick 8. The bottom half contains Bill DiCicco, Rhett Moody, Anthony Mauro and the 4 speed GTX of Ray Garrison finishing the 8 with a qualifying time of 12.83 @ 115 mph.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The rest of the SuperCars in qualifying lined up behind number 9 Dave Marquis' 68 Firebird. Jacob Martinez made it back in his Stage 1 racer to be Dave's pairing.
Andy Colling brought his own 68 Firebird to be the higher seed over the 1965 2+2 of Jack Anderson.
The final match race brings a musclecar battle of the ages. 1970 LS6 4 speed Chevelle vs 1970 Hemi 4 speed Challenger. Tom Rightler brought and raced the Chevy while Robert LaPointe campaigns the Dodge.
Danyelle Doyle came in her 4 speed 1979 Mustang Cobra but was unable to continue. She will be back though.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The two Pontiacs of Andy Colling and Jack Anderson are first to see who will go home a winner. The smaller Firebird qualified in the 13.9's while the full size Indian shifted it's four speed tripower into the 14.3's. Three closeraces later and it was Colling taking the victory winning 3 strait.
Jacob Martinez got the jump in his 1973 Stage 1 Buick and hung on to the win in the first round. Dave Marquis came back and tied it up in his convertible Pontiac in round two. In the rubber match Martinez got a good holeshot and sped down track Dave in hot persuit. At the stripe it was the Firebird getting the win.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

In the Hemi vs LS6 match race Robert LaPointe used his one race of experience to peddled his high powered four speed elephant off the line ahead of the first time racer Rightlers Chevelle taking the match 2-0.

Match races in the books it's time for the eight baddest cars on the property to halve their numbers. Top seated Tom Tarzwell staged next to the 383 Road runner of Bill DiCicco. DiCicco got a good gap at the tree and shot down the quarter mile running a 11.97 but Tom got hold of the track and passed the Plymouth at the stripe with an 11.93.
Bryan Doyle brings his 1971 Challenger into the stage beams to do battle with the 400 powered Firebird of Anthony Mauro. The Pontiac improves nearly every round, this time dropping down to a 12.62. That gives Anthony a front row seat to Bryan's 11.70.
In a pair up that seems to happen in every first round Rhett Moody sides up to Bill Atwood's GTX. Moody stomps on his fastback fish and records a 12.09 making a respectable showing to the Atwood's 11.36.
In the final pair a duo of Plymouths toe the stripe. Ralph Barbagallo in the four speed multicarberated small block and Ray Garrison in his four speed 69 GTX. Ralph came in the higher seated and turned that into a win. A close one though with the big silver B body running a 12.56 to Barbagallo's 12.06.

ImagehUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Once again the consolation round starts with Anthony Mauro and Bill DiCicco facing off. And once again the Road Runner gets the best of the Pontiac. Anthony's '67 did continue his performance gains running a very solid 12.42 keeping it within spitting distance of DiCicco's 12.02.
On the other side of the consolation ladder is again the Barracuda of Rhett Moody. This day Moody faces off against the big block of Ray Garrison. Ray's in his first year of SuperCar but is learning quick and getting into the mix of things. Ray dumps the clutch and drives to a 12.80 ET making Moody stay sharp and get the win with a 12.27.
The consolation finals is the kind of race you always hope to be in. DiCicco has been trying to beat the Barracuda of Moody for 5 years, and for 5 years Moody has found ways to stop him. Staged up the lights flash yellow. The two Plymouths noses shoot up. DiCicco gets a reaction time of .028, but Moody beats him off the line with his own .005. Side by side they shoot down track locked at the door handles. At the finish DiCicco'road runner records a 12.00 to the Barracuda's 12.03. When accounting for reaction times along with ETs the difference came down to 4 inches. 4 inches att 115 mph equal .0015 seconds. DiCicco finally gets the Moody monkey off his back.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The top half of the ladder was not going to be out done though. Tom TNT Tarzwell having just sneaked by in the first round winning by .04 seconds entered the stage beams next to a much more formidable opponent. Facing the Hemi Charger this round is the Six Pack Dodge of Bryan Doyle. In another side by side battle the two Dodges shoot down range. At the lights the difference is .06 this time, again in the Charger 500's favor.
In the other half of the top of the ladder the 440/6 of Bill Atwood had an easier to of it against the four speed small block of Barbagallo. Ralph's 12.21 wasn't going to catch the dark green X's 11.41.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr
In the second amazing final round of the day the 440/6bbl GTX of the Atwood's lined up against the Hemi Charger 500 of Tom Tarzwell. At the tree the two mega Mopars launch nearly together and slam down track side by side. Early on the wedge pulls a small lead but at the half track stripe it's beginning to close. The Hemis heavy breathing closes the gap just as they hit the finish line. The Plymouth lights the board with an 11.31 and the Dodge equalled that also running 11.31. Atwood's .09 reaction was just a hair better than the Dodge's .13 giving the win to Atwood.

Round seven of the SuperCar Shootout brings the racers to New England Dragway in Epping New Hampshire home of some of the biggest drag races each year. Thirteen racers are on property to earn points ,wins and to just have a good time. Joining for the first time this season is Kevin Davey. Kevin campaigns the white 1970 Dodge Challenger, it's motivated by a 440 Six Pack and a four speed. With it's Mopar white paint job it is the spitting image of the Vanishing Point Challenger. Also making his 2019 debut and SuperCar debut is Kevin Josey driving his 1971 billboard festuned 1971 'Cuda 340.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Dawn Colling also joined the frey putting her 1999 Mustang GT up against the traditional muscle and making a fine show of it.

Ted Daros ripped off 10.94 / 129 in qualifying to top the sheet ahead of the 1970 GTX of Atwood. Tom Tarzwell will start in third and Kevin Davey forth. The bottom half of the Quick 8 is populated with Ralph Barbagallo,AAR, Bill DiCicco, Road Runner, Rhett Moody, Barracuda and Anthony Mauro Firebird.

The first of the best of three match races bring wiley veteran SuperCar shoe Hal Oaks and his Chevy II against rookie racer Kevin Josey. Experience wins out as Oaks' small block took the first two rounds ending the 'Cuda's day early. Bitten by the bug, Kevin Josey will be back and better prepared.
The other match finds Andy and Dawn Colling having a little family feud. Andy switched his Firebirds four speed to an automatic and added a good number of horses. Andy's 67 easily outdistanced the 99 Mustang of Dawn winning two to none.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

During qualifying Dave Marquis qualifed 11th with a 12.77 but due to rules regarding convertibles was officially limited to 13.99. When running too quick a second time he was told to park for the remainder of the day. So of coarse we had to poke some fun at him.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

After lunch the quickest eight cars filled the New England Dragway staging lanes paired up to begin eliminations. Quickest on site, Ted Daros lines his dark green 69 Nova opposite five seated Ralph Barbagallo in the four speed 'Cuda. Ted drops the hammer on the Plymouth outrunning it 10.91 to 11.90.
Tom Tarzwell and Rhett Moody are next up. The Hemi powered Dodge makes the line and produces an 11.11 while Moody stayed I the pits trying to get fixed before the next round.
In a battle of B bodies Bill Atwood slowed to a 12.01 to DiCiccos 12.11 having seen the Road Runner go red.
With one more spot left open in the semis and two cars left to run its Anthony Mauro taking his best shot at the Kevin Davey Challenger. Mauro's Firebird put up a solid 12.53 but the Mopars 12.02 was enough to get to the next round.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Getting the festivities started in the consolation race is the 1970 AAR 'Cuda campaigned by Ralph Barbagallo and the dark blue Formula S Barracuda fastback of Rhett Moody. Moody grabs a small advantage at the tree and wings his small block to try to stay ahead of the closing 6 Bbl. Moody found some ponies and improved to 12.03 staying just ahead of Barbagallo's 12.29.
Every race it seems that Anthony Mauro and Bill DiCicco are facing off. Also in every race DiCicco's Road Runner has just enough to stay ahead of the 67 Firebird this time 12.12 to 12.56.
As often as DiCicco is facing off against Mauro after each win it appears that there's a 1968 340 Barracuda there waiting for him in the finals. The Moody, DiCicco races are always interesting and close. Really close. As the tree flashes yellow both Plymouths are off, Moody reacting in .08 and the Road Runner in .02. Side by side down track finishing 12.11 to 12.15 with the 383 just ahead.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Just 4 cars remain in contention. Ted Daros and his 10 second 69 Nova, Tom TNT Tarzwell peddling his big bad Hemi Charger 500, Bill Atwood and it's 6Bbl 70 GTX, and Kevin Davey man shifting his 70 R/T Challenger.
In a very close fought battle the Hemi of Tarzwell just got nipped by Daros' Chevy 11.14 to 11.05. Ted slowed a bit but not enough to be in danger of the aero Dodge.
In the battle of multi-Holley 440's Bill Atwood's GTX got a nose and door ahead of the pistol gripped Challenger of Davey. The R/T running an 11.86 to the Plymouths 11.39.
A familiar final pairing the 70 GTX against the 69 SS Nova. Atwood vs Daros. The Chevy comes off the line hard while the Plymouth way left preying to the traction gods and offering up smoke. Ted's Nova speeds to an 11.12 while the X coasts the remainder of the track.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The entertainment at SuperCar Shootout races never ends when the track closes, there is always something else to do. Tonight racer and all around good guy Hal Oaks got to grow another year older and everyone reminded him of it. Looks okay for 98 don't ya think?
ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Halfway though the season and racers are starting to really watch their points standing. As exciting as the racing is on track the points fluctuations are equally exciting. Here's is how points are earned in the SuperCar Shootout.

Race eight of fifteen will pick up at New England Dragway where race eight left off. Having a fun night of cookouts and movies makes for great comaraderie among the SuperCar racers which always feels like more of a family than a group of competitors. Don't get me wrong there are some great racers, builders, and tuners in the ranks and they all want to win. But each one will give their all to help another racer even if they are their matchup for the next round.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

A new comer in the pits today is the 1968 Mercury Cougar of DB Phillips. Motivated by a 302 driven through an automatic trans it wasn't looking to top the qualiing list, at least not this weekend. We will have to see the kind of build Phillips comes up with with his cool cat.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Three guys who are looking to top the qualifications are Bill Atwood in the GTX, Ted Daros in the Nova SS and Tom Tarzwell in the Charger 500. The Plymouth ran really well putting an 11.20 on the sheet. Tom's Dodge quickly responded with an 11.13 @ 127 mph. Ted saw the challenge and Rose to it topping everyone with a 10.73 @ 129 topping the Eight. Kevin Davey took the last spot on the top half of the Quick 8. Comprising the rest of the Quick 8 are Ralph Barbagallo in the four speed 'Cuda Rhett Moody in the ,68 Formula S, Bill DiCicco in the 68 Road Runner and Hal Oaks in the Chevy II.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

With the Quick 8 filled the remaining racers are paired into their best of three match races. The first duo to hit the track features the two 1967 Firebirds of Anthony Mauro and Andy Colling. Both Pontiacs have dropped a full second from the times they started the season from. Anthony running in the 12.2's and Andy in the 12.9's however made Anthony's Pontiac a two bill winner.
In a much closer match Hanna Colling driving the 1999 GT Mustang and Frank Hoefling in his 68 383 Road runner ran all three rounds side by side. First round 14.32 to 14.37 with Hanna ahead second 14.38 to 14.44 for Frank and in the rubber match a .140 reaction time advantage by Hanna got her a win by .002 with her 14.36 beating the Plymouths 14.26.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The Mercury got paired with the 08 Shelby ofcAlan Zawisza where the modern FoMoCo product used it's supercharged engine to out run the 302 of DB Phillips.

Match races put into the books it's time to let the Quick 8 onto the track. In the 1-5 match the 69 Nova of Ted Daros is unable to make the call giving Ralph Barbagallo a bye into round two.
The original aero warrior from Dodge is next to light the stage beams. Next to the bright red Charger in the 340 of Rhett Moody. Moody runs a serious 11.93 keeping Tom on his toes. Tarzwell does his job running an 11.21 putting Moody into the consolation.
Atwood seeing the 11.21 of Tarzwell comes to the line with plans to match it. Coming within a hair of it recording and 11.23 and making the Road Runner of DiCicco the victim.
In a very good 4-8 pair up the four speed Dodge of Kevin Davey and the stout little shoebox of Hal Oaks take the tree. Hal got out first and opened a small gap on the Challenger but the big mph charge that comes with a four speed car closed that gap. With an 11.70 to 11.91 the Mopar got the win.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Starting the consolation round DiCicco got the bye left the the broken Chevrolet of Daros and went for a hero run. As they often do it resulted in a 16 second et.
Competing to meet the Road Runner in the finals we find the two small blocks of Hal Oaks and Rhett Moody. Moody has his Barracuda at the top of it's game at this point of the season and knocks off another11 second time this time an 11.95. Hal Chevy II is also a strong 11 second ride but his 12.24 this round will cost him a shot in the final.
Once again the Finals finds the two Plymouths of Rhett Moody and Bill DiCicco. Both cars have been evenly matched all season long with wins going back and forth. In another side by side battle 12.00 to 12.07 the 340 and the 383 match each other from light to stripe with the Bird just getting a bumper over the fish.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The Final four starts with the Hemi vs SixPack battle. Kevin Davey shifts his wedge powered Mopar while drives into the distance with his Torqueflight to the tune of a best yet 11.07 while Davey posts a still good 11.88.
The small block interloper in the final four is the Cuda man shifted by Ralph Barbagallo. Ralph is paired up with the Atwood GTX. The bigger Plymouth slowed slightly to record just a 11.72 but it's enough to get by the 12.00 of Barbagallo.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Last event featured a final round of Atwood's GTX and Tarzwell s Charger 500. In that race both cars ran 11.31 with Atwood winning via holeshot. In today's final round Tarwells Dodge again runs an 11.31 which is slightly slower than he had earlier. Having the door left slightly open Atwood attempted to take advantage of it. The dark green Plymouth left the line first and with an 11.34 et made it it anyone's race. When the win light came on though it was the Dodge getting the win by a bumper bolt.

Lebanon Valley Dragway is the site of the SuperCar Shootout season halfway point. Coming to the Eastern New York quarter mile on Saturday are 13 highly tuned stock appearing musclecars. Making his first show of 2019 is veteran racer Tim Frederick with his rebuilt 340. His 1973 Dart is the epitome of a sleeper, and a very cool build.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Fli

Saturdays qualifying brought some excitement but not for the top spot. Leading everyone was the 69 Nova of Ted Daros. Daros' Chevy posted a 10.77 @ 129 mph. Where thing we're less clear cut was the battle for the second spot. In a back and forth with neither car getting the most out of the track the Hemi powered Charger of Tom Tarzwell and the 440/6 GTX of Bill Atwood go to eliminations with Tarzwell's Dodge's 11.40 just nipping Atwood's 11.42. Grabbing the last spot in the top half of the ladder was Kevin Davey, his Challenger putting up an 11.70.
The bottom half of the Quick 8 contains DiCicco's Road Runner, Barbagallo's AAR, Mauro's Firebird and Pontiac of Dave Marquis. Dave's 12.79 capped the group's times.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The pairings in the match races bring some really close battles as well. The 1971 Cuda of Kevin Josey qualifying with a 13.17 will go against the 67 Firebird of Andy who comes in with a 13.11.
The two Mopars of Tim Frederick and Frank Hoefling will be the final pair while the always formidable 68 Barracuda of Rhett Moody made a funny noise in it's 727 and Rhett smartly put it in the trailer.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

In the Plymouth vs Pontiac best of three Andy Colling gets a holeshot in the first round taking the win with a 12.96 over Josey's 12.87. Round two Andy won in the traditional way out performing the Cuda 12.99 to 13.34. In a third shot at the Pontiac Kevin went 13.16 but the Firebird s 13.10 made it a sweep.
In the other match race Tim Frederick flirted with the 12's on each run falling just short while sweeping three strait from Frank Hoefling s Road Runner. Frank's Plymouth has big plans for it going forward and will be in the mix for Quick 8 entries.

After another gourmet lunch cooked up by Ralph Barbagallo and Bill Atwood the Quick 8 cars took their spots in the staging lanes.
Top qualifier Ted Daros' Nova made quick work of number 5 Bill DiCicco putting a 10.87 to the Plymouths 11.96.
The second duo to stage finds the 70 GTX of Bill Atwood and the 67 Firebird of Anthony Mauro. Mauro continues to improve printing a 12.25 on his time slip but the other side showed the bad news for the Firebird, the 11.45 of Atwood.
In an all Mopar battle the quick shifting Ralph Barbagallo takes on the 426 powered Dodge of Tom Tarzwell. Ralph drives the Cuda to an 11.85 just a tick back from Tarzwell's 11.39.
The last car to make round two is Kevin Davey. Kevin's hard running four speed SixPack made it look easy taking out the Pontiac convertible of Dave Marquis 11.88 to Marquis 12.79.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

As is more often than not the consolation rounds start with Anthony Mauro lining up next to Bill DiCicco. Anthony can taste his first win against the Road Runner and puts a strong 12.31 to that end. The Plymouth always seems to have just enough though and spits out an 11.99 to hold off the 400 Firebird.
Dave Marquis is next up to do battle with a Plymouth in his Pontiac. Dave goes his personal best running a great 12.59, giving Ralph good reason to stay on top of his game. Barbagallo did answering Dave's best with an 11.88 making an all Plymouth final.
DiCicco comes to the finals knowing he's a tenth off the best of the Barbagallo'Cuda and tried to make it up at the light. But even going .004 red wasn't enough to get to the finish line first. Ralph shifted the AAR past the bigger Plymouth going 11.82 to DiCiccos 11.96.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The matchups in the last four standing shows why the battle to qualify second over third was so important. Third qualifying Bill Atwood is now tasked with defeating the 10 second Chevy Nova of Ted Daros while the second seated Tom Tarzwell gets the formidable but but slower Kevin Davey.
In a recurring combination of Hemi vs SixPack Tom Tarzwell puts his Charger 500 into the finals outrunning the Challenger of Davey 11.30 to a close 11.73.
In the race to meet the Hemi Dodge in the finals Bill Atwood puts his peddle to the metal in his 6 Bbl Plymouth to the tune of an 11.40. Now is where you'd expect me to write about Ted Daros latest 10 second blast putting him into the finals but that's why races aren't run on paper. Ted battled but could only go an 11.63 on this run giving Atwood the appearance in the Quick 8 finals.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

In the last race of the day, once again it's the two Mopar B bodies the final ones standing. The Hemi Charger 500 that has gone a best of 11.30 today while the other lane brings the 440/6 70 GTX of Bill Atwood. The Plymouths best of the day being a tenth slower. The two big blocks launch hard and side by side with the wedge getting a fender ahead early. As the hemi starts to breath however that gap starts to shrink. At the lights it's the dark green Plymouth just ahead using an 11.43 to outgun the Dodges 11.48.

Sunday October 6th and the SuperCar Shootout guys and girls reconvene at Lebanon Valley Dragway for the second race of the weekend. Thirteen cars and driver's are in the SuperCar pits ready to take home the glory. Of that thirteen are four 2019 first timers, though none are rookies. Can Lyons is out with his billboard 1971 440/6 'Cuda as is Rhett True in his hard launching bright red Buick. Jeremy Benson brought the brightest eye candy with his screaming yellow four speed Trans Am and veteran SuperCar Shootout racer Chris Kuskowski in the less In Your Face four speed Z/28.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

After the three qualifying passes from the racers the one standing atop The feild is the 1969 Nova SS of Ted Daros. His 10.96 @ 129 was just out of reach of Atwood's GTX's 11.30.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Due to a less that normal performance in qualifying Tom Tarzwell and his aero Dodge finds himself in the Q5 position and matched up against the mighty Nova of Daros. Tom's Hemi came alive when it mattered improving to an 11.15 keeping his big Charger right beside the Chevy as they shot down track. The Nova just got a fender ahead at the line recording an 11.04 and heading to round two.
Ralph Barbagallo pushes in the clutch and sets the revs on the 340/6 'Cuda as Anthony Mauro lights the stage beams in the other lane. At the green the Plymouth rocked an 11.74 leaving the Pontiac behind with a respectable 12.41.
Second qualifier Bill Atwood brings his Six Barrel Plymouth up to face the 383 of Bill DiCicco. DiCicco's .001 light was no match for the power of the GTX as the darker green Plymouth caught up and passed the Road Runner on its way to an 11.31 to DiCiccos trailing 12.03.
The final pairing brings together the four speed Six Pack Challenger of Kevin Davey and the Firebird 400 of Dave Marquis. Dave's Pontiac launches nose high and drops a 12.77 on the board while Davey's vanishing Point Challenger runs an 11.77 in getting the win.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

In the first match race we put together the 1967 Firebird 400 of Andy Colling and the 440/6 'Cuda of Dan Lyons. In two very close races Andy got the wins.
The second match race was a round robin of three nearly equal cars. Chris Kuskowski in the 74 Z/28, Rhett True in the 65 Buick, and Jeremy Benson in his 79 Trans Am. First race finds True getting the win over Benson's Trans Am. The second time up finds Kuskowski giving the T/A of Benson the same treatment. In the finals the two winning cars of True and Kuskowski matched up with the Chevy just getting passed the Buick 13.7 to 13.9.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The consolation race begins with Anthony Mauro taking on the shark in the kiddy pool, Tom Tarzwell. Mauro ran his 400 inch Pontiac hard recording a 12.46, and it was nearly good enough as the on again off again Hemi struggled to just a 12.25.
In the battle of green 1968 musclecars Bill DiCicco took the victory over the Pontiac of Dave Marquis. DiCicco's 12.15 keeping the Plymouth ahead of the Firebirds 12.80.
In the consolation finals DiCicco is hoping that the bright red Charger again finds difficulties. Not laying all his hopes on that the Road Runner is off with a .008 reaction followed by a decent 12.09 ET. But Tarzwell is on his game passing the Plymouth and winning the consolation point with an 11.41.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Racing for a shot at the finals Ralph Barbagallo pushes his AAR just a bit too hard slowing to a 12.07, but pushing is what you must do when facing the Nova of Ted Daros. Ted again breaks into the 10 second zone running a 10.96 and punching his ticket into the finals.
Looking to face Daros in the finals are two triple carbed 440's. The white Challenger of Kevin Davey and the GTX of team Atwood. Kevin shifted his Dodge perfectly but the efficient power of the Plymouth got it to the line first 11.39 to 11.67.
In another final round matchup of Ted Daros and Bill Atwood the chips are setup against the Plymouth. Ted's fairly consistent 10 second passes are out of reach still for the Plymouth. Things go as expected as Ted's Chevrolet again marks up a 10.96 while Atwood crosses the line after a run of 11.45 making Daros the days champ.

I don't know what happened between last race and this but from here on we had just massive fields for the rest of the season. This race takes the track at Lebanon Valley Dragway on October 12th and the pits are stacked with 2 full quick 8's and some best of three match races. Five new drivers in four new cars made their way to the Valley to get onto the score sheets including Hanna Colling who came with the Mustang GT her mother raced at New England Dragway last month. Chris Corwell, an experienced SuperCar racer came loaded for bear in his LS6 Chevelle. Shawn Bowman is also sporting a Chevelle today hers being a 396 powered 1969 SS. Racing a 1970 Trans Am is James PRUDENTE. A car that would look at home in any concourse event showing that it can also race with the best of them. Rounding out the new racers for 2019 is Rob Monte. Rob is campaigning a modern 392 6 speed Challenger against the pit full of classic iron. Let's see what today's best from Detroit can to against it's ancestors.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Today's qualifying was quite the battle with a two cars going to the third digit to decide between 2nd and 3rd and four cars within .04 in the fight for 6th 7th 8th and 9th. Cars qualifying outside the first Quick 8 receive less points so for the racers this is very important.
Having less of a heartburn is Ted Daros who claimed the top spot running 10.98 at 127 miles per hour in the 1969 Nova SS. Behind Ted both the 69 Hemi Charger 500 of Tom Tarzwell and the 440/6 GTX of Bill Atwood after three qualifying passes ran bests of 11.40. Tom's Hemi just pipping the wedge of Atwood's by .004 of a second.
Further down the order with times of 12.072, 12.074, 12.09 and 12.11 finds DiCicco's Road Runner taking the 6 the spot .002 ahead of Moody's Formula S, .02 ahead of Hal Oaks' Chevy II and .04 ahead of the Monte Challenger who drops to the Second 8.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The best of three match race was a rematch of a race we had at New England Dragway. Frank Hoefling in his pure stock 1968 383 Road Runner takes on the 1999 Mustang GT driven by Hanna Colling. This pair was closely matched at Epping and they were again today. With each race decided by .2 seconds or less Frank took the win with his family in the stands to see.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The Second 8 starts with the Monte 2018 Challenger taking on the 1967 Firebird 400 of Andy Colling. Rob shifted his 6 speed to the tune of a 12.27 giving a three quarter second gap back to Andy's pontiac's 13.01.
Anthony Mauro, comes in the number 3 qualifier and finds the 1970 Trans Am of James Prudente in the other lane. In the match up of 400 inch Indians Anthony got the best of James 12.38 to the T/As 13.77.
Chris Corwell brings his 1970 LS6 to the tree to meet Chris Kuskowski in his 1974 Z/28. The two maroon Chevys leave together and pass the tree side by side but as the speed builds the power of the big block shows as Chris posts a stout 12.25 to The Z's 13.39.
The final pairing in the first round of the Second 8 brings the 1968 Firebird 400 of Dave Marquis and the 1969 Chevelle SS396 of Shawn Bowman. Today is Shawn's first ever race but she's not going to be intimidated even while driving her high powered Chevrolet. But Dave is an experienced racer and hip deep in the championship points and wasn't going to let chivalry stand in the way. Dave blasts a 12.71 from his convertible outrunning Shawn's gold SS's 14 second time.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The Second 8 consolations feature the 1967 Firebird 400 of Andy Colling, the 1970 400 4 speed Trans Am of James Prudente, the 1974 4 speed Z/28 or Chris Kuskowski and the 1969 SS396 of Shawn Bowman. You read that right, these four ultimate musclecars are the Second 8 consolation, what an amazing field of cars!
First to the line are the two Chevrolets, Chris Kuskowski drops the clutch and bangs through the years as the 396 Chevelle screams down track next to him. When the timing lights show the results it's the small block getting the win with a good 13.32.
In the matchup of Pontiacs on the other side of the ladder Andy Colling in the first gen Firebird takes on James Prudente in his second gen. Andy launches hard and draws up a 13.02 to the four speed T/As 13.72.
The finals brings the 1974 four speed 350 Z/28 of Chris Kuskowski against the white 1967 Firebird 400 of Andy Colling. Both cars have been in the low 13's throughout the day with either one capable of taking home the trophy. Surprisingly Chris in the stick shifted Chevy runs the finals staying consistent to his last runs recording another 13.3 this time with a 9 at the end while Andy's Firebird slows slightly to a 13.16 but still enough to take the win.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

In the top half of the Second 8 field the four remaining racecars are all very stout machines and all driven by capable racers. Anthony Mauro comes to the tree very much in the SuperCar championship Chase and wanting to maximize his points. To get to the finals he'll need to defeat the 2018 Dodge of Rob Monte. The Challenger was slightly quicker in qualifying but runs a stick shift where as Anthony's Pontiac is very consistent and getting quicker every event. The gold Pontiac trips the lights after just 12.42 seconds but it was also .3 seconds after the Mopar putting Monte into the finals.
Dave Marquis is the most experienced driver left in the Second 8 having campaigned his 68 Firebird 400 for three seasons taking it from a 15 second Street cruiser to a mid 12 second monster. In the other lane, Chris Corwell has a monster of his own. LS6, the name alone intimidates and Chris's is no joke. Corwell has been on the cusp of his first 11 second run for two seasons. On this run pure power was going to be the difference as the big Chevelle runs a 12.19 to Dave's 12.92.
The finals of the second 8 is looking to be a barn burner. The 392 Hemi vs LS6 454. Both cars are just a hair away from recording an 11 second time and both drivers have been flawless throughout eliminations. Rob Monte's Dodge has been marginally quicker but Chris has a lot more experience. As the tree flashes yellow both musclecars raise their noses and then it's over. Maybe the pressure of being in his first finals got to Rob but he slowed to a 12.58 which is more than the SS454 needed as Chris lights the board with a 12.15 claiming the days championship.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

All that excitement and we haven't even gotten to the quickest eight cars on the property yet. The call to the staging lanes brings number one qualifier Ted Daros in his 69 Nova SS396 and his race pairing Kevin Davey shifting the 440/6 Challenger R/T. Kevin's Vanishing Point Challenger is a solid 11 second machine and he stayed true to that posting an 11.85. Unfortunately for Kevin Ted's Nova is a consistent 10 second beast and though Ted's Nova didn't run a ten on this run his 11.07 was sufficient to get to round two.
It seems that every race event brings the 340 Barracuda of Rhett Moody up against the six barrel GTX of the Atwood's and to this point the GTX has swept the series. Today was no different as the Atwood Plymouth bettered it's qualifying time by a hundreth running an11.39 to the ABodies 12.10.
Tom Tarzwell also used a round one run to improve on his qualifying time improving to an 11.28 making quick work of the 383 Road Runner of Bill DiCicco as he only went 12.05 on his way to the consolation race.
The last of the first round races turned out to be the best. Two of the most experienced racers bring their small blocks to face off. Hal Oaks in his super quick 327 Chevy II just barely made the quick 8 and reigning champion Ralph Barbagallo man shifting the AAR 'Cuda came in qualifying forth. Ralph gave the powerglide equipped Chevy an inch at the tree before storming to an 11.80. Hal however took that inch and then took some more by making his slower 11.95 enough to go to round two.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The Quick 8 consolation race consisted of four 11 second capable cars, a 440 Six Pack, a 340 Six Bbl both four speeds, a 383 and a 340. The first two to pair off are the 440/6 of Kevin Davey and the 340 Barracuda of Rhett Moody. Kevin drops the clutch and gives it all the beans printing an 11.69 on his time slip while Moody needing a hero run only recorded a 13.23 as the track wasn't giving hero runs today.
In a similar result the stick shifted Cuda of Barbagallo hammered out an 11.94 while the Road Runner of DiCicco looked for more grip than was available only going 12.31 making for an all pistol grip final.
The two triple Holley equipped Mopars slowly pull into the stage beams. Davey's white Dodge and Barbagallo bright blue Plymouth. The starter thumbs the tree to activate and 12 barrels of carburators all open injecting many cfms of air. 1320 feet from there it was the Dodge that made the most of that air turning it into an 11.80 ET with the Plymouth going 12.21.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The final four still standing are Ted Daros in his 69 SS396 Nova, Bill Atwood and the 1970 440/6 GTX, Tom TNT Tarzwell in the Hemi Charger 500 and Hal Oaks in the 327 Chevy II.
By not having out qualifying Tarzwell Atwood must face the number one qualifier in round two. The two dark green musclecars, 69 Nova and 70 GTX inch up to the stage beams and turn them on. Atwood tried his best running an 11.40 but Daros again is pushing up against a 10 second run just .07 off and puts the Nova into the finals.
The bottom of the ladder brigs second qualifying Tom Tarzwell to face the mini shoebox of Hal Oaks. While a much better matchup due to qualifying second than Atwood had by racing from the three spot, Oaks is no slouch. Unfortunately Oaks slowed to a 12.24 while next to him Tarzwell also slowed to a beatable 11.70. But getting there first the aero nosed Dodge gets the invite to the finals.
In the Quick 8 finals the bright red 69 Hemi Charger 500 exits the staging lanes besides the dark green SS396 Nova of Ted Daros. The Nova came in top qualifier and has been slightly quicker than the Dodge each round. But running side by side against the fastest opponent all day can make drivers and tuners make mistakes. Tarzwell has nothing to lose and tries to improve on his best and to get ahead of the Chevrolet. The MPH of both cars are similar so getting his nose ahead early could be enough. But the effort turned into smoke and squealing tires. Ted gets to the d d first with a consistent 11.15 to the 500's coasting 12.02.

Even this late into the season there are still eight racers with strong chances to win the championship!

Sunday October 13ths race will have to go a ways to top Saturdays event but dammit I think it does! For day two, racing at the Mopars at the Valley event SuperCar again fills the pits with 18 cars ready to go to eat. New entries in the 2019 record books are John Gavin in his 340 1968 Dart, Jay Anderson in a 1987 Buick T-Type and Rock DeFranco racing a 2002 Viper. SuperCar regular Dan Lyons returned but not in his 71 'Cuda but in a 2019 392 Challenger.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Qualifying again today was a back and forth affair during the three passes though the top spot was comfortably Ted Daros'. Ted's Nova recording a 10.94 to lead the pack. Right behind the mean green Chevy though is where it gets more interesting. The Hemi Charger of Tom Tarzwell again in a neck and neck beat down with the 6Bbl GTX of Atwood. Atwood puts an 11.33 on the board only to lose the two seat to Tarzwell at the last minute when the Nascar Dodge went 11.29. Kevin Davey aand Ralph Barbagallo start 4th and 5th in their four speed E bodies. 6 through 8 are only separated by .06 of a second with the order coming out as DiCicco, 11.99, Moody, 12.03 and Hal Oaks' Chevy II making the quick 8 with a 12.05.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Taking the pole position in the Second 8 is Anthony Mauro in his 1967 Firebird 400. Facing the Pontiac is the 1973 340 Dart of Tim Frederick. Tims 340 is running strong and lights the board with a 13.22, but Mauro isn't messing around and puts a full second on the gold Dodge.
Second pair up is an all Pontiac matchup with Dave Marquis' 68 convertible Firebird 400 coming to meet the 1970 Trans Am of James Prudente. James shifted the T/A admirably but Dave's power advantage was too great. Dave's 12.81 putting him into round two as James' 13.49 puts him into the consolation race.
The second 340 Dart in the Second 8 is John Gavin's 68. To get to the second round the Dodge will have to get by the hard launching Buick of Rhett True. The bright red Buick goes hard nose up and trips the beams in 13.57 seconds giving Rhett a perfect view of the Dart running 12.19 in front of him.
Looking for the final spot in round two are the 67 Firebird 400 of Andy Colling and the turbo Buick of Jay Anderson. With the boost turned up on his V6 Jay ran the track in just 13.78 seconds while in the old school carburated V8 of Andy took the last spot publishing a 13.12 in his log book.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The Second 8 consolation brings the best from Buick, Pontiac and Dodge with Buick bringing two racers. Pairing up first is the Dodge of Tim Frederick and the Pontiac of James Prudente. Tims small block is on point running a 13.25 which James quicky sees is quicker than he's going to get and he coasts through the traps.
Competing to meet the Dart in the final are the two bucks of Jay Anderson and Rhett True. Both cars ran similar ETs in the first round making this anyone's race. Crafty veteran True got his Buick out first and though the T-Type made a run at him he managed to stay ahead 13.34 to 14.18.
The Second 8 Finals comes down to the 1973 Dart of Tim Frederick and the 1971 GS Stage 1 of Rhett True. On paper the Stage one should walk the small block end to end. But as they say we don't race on paper. Tim got a small holeshot and didn't look back posting a 13.20 while the Buick struggled and crossed 3 seconds later.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

In the winner's bracket of the Second 8 the two Firebirds of Anthony Mauro and Dave Marquis again line up to battle. Anthony has been quicker so far this season while both cars have been improving race by race. Dave runs an extremly quick 12.67 just an eyelash behind Mauro's 12.46.
In the second pairing the 67 Firebird of Andy Colling takes on the lone non-pontiac of the group in John Gavin's 340 Dart. Andy's Indian records a strong 13.03 but the might of mother Mopar was too great as Gavin goes 12.25.
Anthony needs to work if he's going to win the Second 8 over the quicker Dodge of Gavin so as the yellow lights flash Anthony is off with a .104 RT. John wasn't much slower and catches the Bird by half track and gets a nose and door ahead at the stripe winning 12.19 to Mauro's 12.35.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

With the Second 8 in the books it time to bring out the big guns. The quickest eight cars in the pits find their match and head out of the staging lanes and onto the track. Starting the show are the 1 and 5 qualifiers Ted Daros and Ralph Barbagallo. Both the four speed AAR of Barbagallo and the Dark green SS of Daros run just off their respective qualifying times. Sadly for the P!ymouth the Chevy's number was a second quicker, 12.07 to 11.01.
Next to stage up is the perrenial first round duo of Atwood and Moody. Moody matches his 12.03 from qualifying but what he can't match is the 11.33 of the 6Bbl B body.
A first round matchup nearly as common as the Moody/Atwood pairing is the Tarzwell DiCicco race. DiCicco's 383 is again no match for the big Hemi of Tarzwell with the Road Runner losing 12.01 to 11.28.
In the race of the round Hal Oaks drops nearly .3 off his best of the season storming to an 11.79. Combined with a small holeshot it was nearly enough to put Kevin Davey and his 6Pack Dodge into the consolation. Nearly. Davey's top end charge put him ahead of the Chevy II at the stripe with an 11.68.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

The Quick 8 consolation is my favorite four cars to see do battle. The 340/6 four speed AAR 'Cuda of Ralph Barbagallo comes in as the points leader and current champ, Rhett Moody in his 340 Formula S Barracuda currently fifth and a former champion, Bill DiCicco's 383 Road Runner, second in points and Hal Oaks in his flyweight Chevy small block running it's best times of the year.
Taking to the track first is Barbagallo and Moody. Moody's Plymouth for years has been known to jump up and play giant killer and today Ralph's 'Cuda is playing the part as the giant. In a side by side affair,11.96 to 11.98 Moody picked Barbagallo's pocket and sent his 68 into the finals.
Looking to meet Moody in the finals DiCicco must get passed the suddenly much quicker Chevy II of Hal Oaks. DiCicco put a .033 reaction time on Hal and waits for the Chevy to make its comeback. The little shoebox is on its game going 11.88 but the slight lead from the lights combined with an 11.93 of his own was enough to keep the Plymouth in the lead and into the finals.
The two 68 Plymouths both get to the finals winning as underdogs and both running nearly identical times last round. At the light there is little to no RT advantage. Side by side from end to end not an inch between the 340 and the 383. As the scoreboard light up it show 12.17 to 12.21 with DiCicco continuing his winning ways against Moody.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

All that racing brings us to the four baddest machines on the property. Ted Daros in his 1969 396 Nova SS, Bill Atwood and his 1970 440/6 GTX. Tom TNT Tarzwell driving his 1969 HEMI Charger 500 and the 440 Six Pack four speed Challenger R/T of Kevin Davey.
Again by dropping to the third qualifying spot Atwood has to face the 10 second Nova of Daros just to get to the finals. Bill and the GTX give all that they think the track can handle and produces an 11.46 ET but with more horse power Daros manages an even better 11.05 on his way to the Sunday finals.
The last twosome looking for entry into the finals are Tom Tarzwell's Hemi 500 and Davey's 6Pack. Kevin rows the pistol grip with the best of them and put his Dodge in the 11.8's. The Aero nosed Dodge however found myself in the 11.3's and into the finals.
It's all come down to this. Hemi vs Rat. Charger vs Nova. Tarzwell vs Daros. Tom needs to run his best and hope that Ted has any kind of problem. Neither of those happen as the Dodge slows go just an 11.70 and the Chevrolet of Daros an 11.13.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Top 10 Points standings:

1. Ralph Barbagallo...................320
2. Bill DiCicco..............................314
3. Bill Atwood..............................292
4. Anthony Mauro.......................281
5. Rhett Moody............................278
6. Dave Marquis..........................266
7. Tom Tarzwell...........................259
8. Ted Daros.................................254
9. Kevin Davey..............................157
10 Hal Oaks...................................134

Saturday November 2 brings the most anticipated race of the year, SuperCar Shootout's Record Runs Weekend. A title that over the years has been well earned. With just three races remaining points have never been of more interest. A big part of totaling a racers points is the addition (subtraction?) of dropped races. Each SuperCar racer must drop four races from their score. This makes it easier for those who have to miss events to stay in the championship hunt. With three races having rain outs every contestant chose those three zero points races to drop then each got to choose one more race where they couldn't attend or scored their worst points goals. Score totals from here on will be with the drops included.

The Atco New Jersey pits were stacked with SuperCars with two full quick 8's and a couple more on top of that. New racers seem to come to every race this year and this one was no exception. Dave Engstrom made the trip from Connecticut to race his bright red Dodge Challenger. Ted Daros, famose Chevy racer is on premises in a Plymouth! Not just any Plymouth either, the 1966 HP2 Hemi Belvedere of Ralph Barbagallo. Winning the long distance award for today is Larry Kirkum. Larry came with a trailer full of 1968 427 Tri-Power Corvette. One that looks to shake things up.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

With all the heavy hitters in the pits some very quick cars are not going to make the Quick 8. In fact nearly every position is going to be contested all the way down the feild. Topping the feild today was Bill Atwood and his 1970 GTX running an 11.20 @ 123. In the second spot is the 71 R/T Challenger of Bryan Doyle going 11.469 and third is Kevin Davey 70 R/T Challenger just one thousenth of a second behind at 11.470. Tom Tarzwell in the Hemi Charger starts in the 4 hole rounding the top of the pack. The bottom half is comprised of the Kirkum Corvette posting a 11.77 but at a remarkable 135 mph! Ralph Barbagallo, Rhett Moody and Bill DiCicco with an 11.99 complete the Quick 8.
Missing the quick 8 by just over 1/100th is Ted Daros in the Hemi Belvedere getting it down the track in 12.00 with the Chevy II of Hal Oaks just 3/100ths back. The two Firebirds of Dave Marquis and Andy Colling are next followed by the Dart of Tim Frederick the 69 RS Z/28 of John Slavin the 79 Cobra of Danielle Doyle and the big 2+2 Pontiac of Jack Anderson. Frank Helping will take on the Challenger of Dave Engstrand in his Road Runner.
The first round of the best of three match race sees Frank redlighting his chance away giving Dave round one. Round two finds Dave's Challenger slowing evening up the score at one apiece. In a code rubber match Frank's 68 Road Runner goes 14.19 just ahead of the 14.41 of Dave's Dodge.

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Starting the festivities in the Second 8 are the two Mopars of Tim Frederick and Ted Daros. Tim came to Atco to aquire his 12 second club sticker and made a strong run at it in round one going 13.07 while the favorite Hemi Belvedere had an issue and didn't record a time.
The Firebird convertible of Dave Marquis is next to break the stage beams along side the 1979 Cobra of the younger Doyle. The Ford breaks into the 13 second club while Dave gets to round two with a 12.80.
Two formidable small block Chevys fill the starting line next. The 67 Chevy II of Hal Oaks takes on the 302 Camaro of John Slavin. Hal knocks off a 12.35 while John pushes in the clutch and coasts across the line in the 17's.
Andy Colling who started the season in his Firebird running mid 14's with a stick has just now hone 12.96 while beating the 4 speed Tri-Power Poncho of Jack Anderson

ImageUntitled by cudadude2, on Flickr

Danny Doyle having fallen to the consolation race gets the unenviable task of taking on the Hemi driven by Ted Daros. Tho she improved her Mustangs best ET to eat to a 13.63 the might of the HP2 was too great. Ted, driving Barbagallo's Plymouth to a 12.17 to get to the final.
Besides Danielle's Mustang there were two other stick shifts in the Second 8 consolation. Those two are the 69 RS Z/28 of John Slavin and the 65 Pontiac of Jack Anderson. Both cars run well but at the end it was Jack punching his ticket to the finals.
Ted has slowly been coming to grips with the Hemi getting quicker and quicker each round giving Anderson quite the task to win the final. Jack pops the big 2+2's clutch and races town track to the tune of a 14.12 ET. The Plymouth though is coming on song pushing it's best for today down to an 11.65.

The winner's bracket of the Second 8 starts with a matchup of the small block Dart of Tim Frederick and the convertible Pontiac of Dave Marquis. In a good battle Dave brings the Firebird home first putting a 12.84 against the Mopars 13.17.
Andy Colling, with his new 12 second sticker in hand pulls up next the veteran racer Hal Oaks and his Chevy II. At the green Hal has his way with the Pontiac gapping it by a second, 12.07 to 13.01.
Oaks fresh off beating one Firebird to get the the finals meets another in the form of Dave Marquis 68. As the cars stage the starter backs out the favorite Oaks claiming he saw a leak letting Dave get a solo 12.78 and a finals victory. No leak was found on Hals Chevy. Robert Meuller is looking into payments made to the starter by Marquis.

The Quick 8 migrate into the staging lanes and find their matchups. The first pair is the most intreguing with number one qualifier Bill Atwood facing the 135 mph Corvette of Larry Kirkum. Atwood know the danger the Vette poses and cuts a .07 reaction time and head to the stripe like his hairs on fire with the Chevy closing rapidly. At the traps only .012 separate the two alpha racers with the Corvette of Kirkum going 11.27 just behind the GTX's 11.38! Atwood wins on a holeshot.
Paired up second is Kevin Davey in his Vanishing Point Challenger and Rhett Moody in the small block Formulas S. Moody for the second race in a row Moody plays giant killer taking out the Six Pack Dodge 11.92 to 12.01
Two 4 speed E bodies stage up next. The big block of Bryan Doyle and the small block of Ralph Barbagallo. Engines roaring and shifters jamming it's Doyle's 71 getting the win by a lefty 11.48 for the Dodge and 11.83 for the Plymouth.
Again the first round matchup of Tarzwell and DiCicco will be replayed. Only this time the hemi lost traction on the 1-2 shift and nearly bites the wall while the Road Runner goes smoothly down track in 11.95 with the Charger coasting into the consolation.

In the most stacked consolation round maybe in the history of SuperCar we have the 427 Corvette of Kirkum, the 440/6 Challenger of Davey, the mighty AAR of Barbagallo and the Hemi 500 of Tarzwell!
First to be eliminated is the Chevy of Kirkum as he's still working out how best to take a 135 mph Corvette on tiny tires while long time racer Kevin Davey stomps out an 11.49.
The bottom of the ladder finds the nascar Charger of Tarzwell taking on the Trans Am 'Cuda of Barbagallo. On the drag strip it's the Hemi that reigns dumping an 11.97 vs Barbagallo's 12.07.
The finals are less dramatic as Tom's Hemi is calling it quits gifting the win to Davey's Challenger. Kevin took advantage of the free pass running an 11.48.

It took us getting to the final four before we could get out Atwood/ Moody matchup. Moody used up all his magic to get here as the dark green GTX was flawless running an 11.25 against the still strong 11.97 put up by the Barracuda.
DiCicco's Road Runner looks to meet Atwood I the finals all he has to do is get passed the Dodge of Bryan Doyle. Bryan 11.38 would've been enough to win but the Road Runner fouled -.004 at the tree giving it away before going 11.91 and I to the trailer.
The finals find two 440's featuring a trio of Holley two barrels each. Doyle hooked his to a four speed while Atwood runs a 727. Atwood's been quicker all day but Bryan has been closing the gap a bit each round and could feel an upset. At the green it was the stick shift out first with a .05 reaction. Atwood started from behind was was all over the back of the Dodge. When the dust cleared the timing lights say that Doyle went 11.44 while Atwood got an 11.33. That reaction time of Doyle's came to be the difference giving Bryan the win.

As day two of the Records Runs Weekend dawn's there are 17 of Detroit's finest vintage iron in the SuperCar Shootout pits. Of those 17 only three remain in the championship hunt. Leading the points is reigning SuperCar champ Ralph Barbagallo while just a single point behind is the previous years champ Bill Atwood and the pesky Road Runner of Bill DiCicco.
Joining the gray today is the very cool 1972 Charger of Adam Witkowski. Powered by a 340 cubic inch small block the Dodge will be able to punch above it's weight.

After a rousing morning of qualifying it was the dark green Plymouth GTX of Atwood grabbing the top spot and getting the single point for doing so moving his into a tie for first in real time. Kevin Davey power shifted his Challenger into second and the AAR peddled by Barbagallo slots into third just ahead of the Moody Barracuda. Fifth and sixth were the 1966 Hemi Belvedere today wheeler by a multitasking Barbagallo and the featherweight Chevy II of Hall Oaks with both cars recording 11.904 ET's! The Plymouth getting the higher spot by means if it's higher MPH. Rounding out the Quick 8 are the 68 Plymouth of DiCicco who's qualifying spot throws the top 3 into a threeway tie for the lead, and the Firebird of Anthony Mauro.

Racing in the Second 8 was no less intense with several closely qualified cars. The first pair to take to the concrete pad in true anger are the top qualifying GTX of Ray Garrison and the sleek 1973 Stage 1 Buick of Jacob Martinez. Jacob has been touring the country this year racing at all kinds of events in his Stage 1 including doing the whole of Drag Week so he is on his game. A good light and a good 13.21 second run by the Buick just wasn't enough once the Plymouth got into 4th year and pulled away chalking up a solid 12.59 on his way to round two.
Andy Colling is part of the next pair in his 67 Pontiac F body taking on the new coming Adam Witkowski. The big Dodge ram well with it's small block giving him a 13.83 second time while the practiced and further sciences out Firebird went into the second round with a 13.11.
The green convertible wheeled by Dave Marquis comes to the line to meet the Hemi powered Dodge of Robert LaPointe. Dave's Firebird is a consistent A to B car and that will get you some wins. Getting to the finish line in front of the struggling Challenger and moving on while LaPointe regathered himself for the consolation race.
Wrapping up round one of the Second 8 are the four speed Impala of Dom D'Alonzo and the bright red Challenger of Dave Engstrand. Word Is Dave has plans for a proper quick SuperCar in the future. Round two will see the D'Alonzo Chevy making the appearance as be outran the Dodge 13.03 to 14.3.

Filling the Second 8 consolation are the 73 Stage 1 of Martinez, the 72 340 Charger of Witkowski, the 70 Hemi 4 speed of LaPointe, and the spunky Challenger of Dave Engstrand. The fist ones to meet are the Charger and the Buick. In a good 13 second race the Buick of Martinez ouches his ticket to the finals beating the Dodge 13.18 to 13.87.
Two Dodge Challengers make up the remaining racers but besides the name the cars couldn't be much different. The 1970 getting the best of the newer Dodge 13.65 to 14.53.
In a recreation of the most iconic musclecar race of all time we have a final of Stage 1 vs Hemi. Without that race in 1984 and without the Buick getting the upset it's likely than none of us would be doing this today. But we all know that Buicks can't beat Hemis, especially not 1973 smog motor Buicks. No one told Jacob Marquis though as he ran his big 455 to a 13.11 staying ahead of the Elephant powered Challenger of LaPointe's 13.60.

The top of the ladder started round two with a real barn burner. The GTX of Ray Garrison took on the Firebird of Andy Colling. From greenlight to timing light the two very different musclecars locked door handle to door handle with only the electronics of the track being able to make the call. Ray's 440 going 13.01 while Andy's 400 got there in 12.99. Combined with reaction times the Pontiac will get to the finals.
Getting to face Andy in the final will be either the 327 4 speed of Dom D'Alonzo or the 400 convertible Firebird of Dave Marquis. Both come in as very experienced racers and both cars are set up very well and have gone derp into the 12.s. Today's Second 8 Finals will be an all Pontic affair as Dave pushes his bird to a 12.65 and Dom slows to a 13.11.
Dave Marquis come to the finals a definite favorite running consistently 3 tenths quicker than Andy. That trend will continue in the finals as Dave takes the win 12.93 to the white Firebirds 13.21.

It's always amazing how much good racing there is before we even get to the Quick 8. But here they come. The quickest eight cars on the property. First to exit the staging lanes is quickest of all Bill Atwood in his 70 GTX. Tasked with taking out the top qualifier is the HP2 Hemi Belvedere of Ralph Barbagallo. In an epic battle where Barbagallo can really do his AAR championship hopes a ton of good by taking out Atwood early he stages up his boxy Plymouth. Really stepping up Ralph wrings an 11.40 out of the HP2, good enough to win in nearly any race round. Atwood has the GTX's 440 on full song though romping down the track in just 11.09. This adding another point to Atwood putting him up 1.
The next pair comes to the line with all the excitement of a Quick 8 battle plus the added pressure that the winner will tie with Atwood and the loser will drop to third in the championship. The matchup up Ralph Barbagallo and Bill DiCicco takes the green with both cars coming off hard and the Road Runner getting a car length and a half on the clutch equipped'Cuda. As the Plymouths race down track though the more powerful 6 Bbl wound in the 383 taking the win 11.85 to 11.93. Barbagallo and Atwood ties with DiCicco one point back.
The third pair brings the the Vanishing Point Challenger of Kevin Davey and the 327 Chevrolet of Hal Oaks. In yet another close race where Hal got a slight lead at the light followed by a strong 11.80 trying to stay ahead of the closing Dodge. Kevin poured on the coals to his Six Pack getting past the Chevy deuce with a stunning 11.51.
The last pair of the Quick 8 wasn't going to be outdone for drama. Anthony Mauro found another personal best pushing his gold Firebird 12.25 and keeping the Barracuda right center in his rights as they raced down track. Moody still managed to pull a fender on the Poncho by going 12.01 and into round 2.

With one point left to get in the consolation race DiCicco still has a chance to keep the pressure on Atwood and Barbagallo. Standing in his way in the first round however is the mighty HP2 of Barbagallo. Ralph with every reason to want to beat the Road Runner and limit his points won't be rolling over. Playing it safe Ralph let's DiCicco get an early car length lead but by the 1000 foot stripe the big Hemi went storming by the 383 taking the win 11.47 to 11.94.
Vying to meet the Belvedere in the final is the Chevy II of Hal Oaks and the 67 Firebird of Anthony Mauro. While Anthony slowed Hal explodes with a best ever for the little Chevy of 11.77!
In what has been typical of SuperCar Shootout races we get to the finals with two cars that qualified with identical ETs down to the third digit. The lightweight 327 67 Chevy II of Hal Oaks and the 426 Hemi Belvedere of Ralph Barbagallo. Two very different ways to skin the quarter mile cat. Both very effective. As the qualifying time would lead you to beleive this race was close. Real close with the extra oomph of the Hemi just giving Ralph a fender on the Chevy, 11.58 to 11.79.

The championship fight is about to get shooken up as the two drivers tied at the top of the heat come together in a round two matchup. Atwood's 6 Bbl 440 taking on the 340 6 Bbl of Barbagallo. Atwood doesn't bring his A game slowing from his previous 11 flat he can only muster an 11.65 in round 2. Barbagallo shifting hard in the AAR however could only coax an 11.83 and gives Atwood back his one point championship lead.
Rhett Moody comes into round two to face the Dodge of Kevin Davey. As every race do far today this one was another nail biter. The two Mopars come off the line Moody's Plymouth first with Davey's Challenger right behind. As the speeds build the power of the Six Pack equalizes the starting line advantage of Moody and then erasing it before the finish line. Davey's Challenger posting a 11.67 to 11.83 win.
In an all 440/6 finals Atwood gets his act back together with an 11.26, out of reach for the best that Kevin's Dodge could post as the Challenger crosses the line half a second later. On top of the win it also adds another point to Atwood's total.

Battle for the championship

1. Atwood....................348
2. Barbagallo...............346
3. DiCicco....................345
4. Moody......................332
5. Mauro,......................322
6. Marquis,...................312
7 Tarzwell.....................295
8. Daros........................274
9. Davey........................208
10 Oaks.........................182
