The 2017 SuperCar Shootout season comes to an end at the series unofficial home track, Raceway Park at Englishtown New Jersey. The mid November air and great race surface drew a dozen cars to come and battle it out one last time before the snows fly. If we knew then what we know now about the future of Raceway Park. Though the battle for champion was in the books everyone wants to end the gear with a win and so they qualified. 1. Greg Witney. 1966 396 auto Chevelle SS. 10.99 @ 129.17 2. Ted Daros. 1969 396 auto Nova SS. 11.15 @ 128.44 3. Bryan Doyal. 1971 440/6 4sp Challenger R/T. 11.73 @ 119.35 4. Ralph Barbagallo. 1972 340 auto Demon. 11.76 @ 116.35 5. Rhett Moody. 1968 340 auto Barracuda S. 12.15 @ 115.10 6. Tom Tarzwell. 1973 340 auto Duster. 12.23 @ 114.69 7. Hal Oaks. 1967 327 auto Chevy II. 12.49 @ 111.40 8. Dave Marquis. 1968 400 auto Firebird. 12.97 @ 106.54 9. Dom D'Alonzo. 1963 327 4sp Impala. 13.01 @ 106.51 10 John Slavin. 1969 396 auto Camaro SS. 13.14 @ 106.22 11 Bill DiCicco 1968 383 auto Road Runner. 13.34 @ 101.64 12 Steve Tate 1970 340/6 4sp AAR Cuda Broke Race fourteen gets kicked off with Greg Whitney taking on the fastback Barracuda S of Rhett Moody. Greg's Chevelle SS has been running solidly in the 10 second zone where as Rhett has been whittling his fish into an 11. Rhett was unable to make the line for this round and Greg used the solo to run another 10 and prep for round two. Ted Daros, another 10 second runner is up next to do battle with Gary Constagna driving the new champion Duster. The dark green Nova indeed did run a ten leaving the Duster nearly two seconds behind. Bryan Doyal brought his gorgeous 1971 Challenger R/T out for his first SuperCar race. Bryan isn't new to racing his six pack Dodge though and will not be a pushover. Taking on the Challenger is Hal Oaks piloting his little shoebox Chevy. The 327 ran the quarter mile in 12.12 but the Dodge powered past to the tune of an 11.60. Completing the first round pits Ralph Barbagallo in his Demon against Dave Marquis. Dave and Jacob Marquis raced with the SuperCar Shootout last year and intended to be back earlier in the year but we're felled by many engine issues. They seem to have that fixed even though they slowed to a 13.84. Ralph saw their 13 and raised them with an 11.94. Round two starts with Greg Whitney vying with Bryan's Challenger. The Dodge step it up, shifting it to an 11.80, but Greg had more in his Chevelle to running an incredible 10.71. Ted Daros watching that tried to match Greg with another ten second ET with a .91 taking out the Demon of Ralph Barbagallo even though he ran a strong 11.80. In the last quick eight final of 2017 Greg Whitney defeats Ted Daros 10.76 to 10.95! Round one of the consolation race matches Rhett Moody and Hal Oaks again. Rhett's been getting the better of Oaks recently but the Chevy has had the better over all. The fish will go into the office season with the last head to head victory. I'm sure Hal will hear about that often. Gary Constagna driving Tom Tarzwell s Duster faces the Firebird of team Marquis, this time with the younger Marquis driving. Jacob drove the droptop Pontiac to a 12.78 good, but not enough if your against the Supercar champ. The Duster went 11.85 and into the final. Gary meets Rhett Moody in the final. Rhett ran a strong 12.19 but could overcome the constant 11 second times of the Duster, this one an 11.81. In the round robin of the three remaining cars Dom D'Alonzo garnered three wins, and John Slavin and Bill DiCicco each grabbed one win. |
