I was talking to Jeremy in the staging lanes on Saturday and we saw a 74 GTO. I think that would be a contender. Stepchild GTO, Venturas are cheap, Small Nova body, built 455 block made to look like a 350, fresh air intake. That was one car I considered when building something.

The other one that I think would be pretty cool to see is a SC/360 Hornet, 401 block to take the place of the 360, not sure of AMC capabilities but I hope we find out soon.

But the Can Am was made in 1977- would it be legal? Plus they weigh 2 1/2 tons!

The car I'd love to see racing is a 1970 Tempest T-37... will it ever be done?

Really though, I'd like to see some more "off-beat" kind of cars. Any AMC's and the lesser known Oldsmobiles, Buicks, Pontiacs, etc.

Ralph,

T-top Trans Ams, Irocs?? Theres got to be a deeply repressed love for corvettes in their somewhere...

You should do up a 69 Charger with the Italian Flag on the roof. :)

Ed KusinSKI thinks I should put a polish Flag plate on the front of my Duster.

It definately wouldn't clash.

How about a Maverick Grabber or Mercury Comet GT.

Notice the underdog theme.

I for one would love to see lots more unusual combinations running at Factory Stock and Factory Appearing events. Of the cars mentioned in previous posts, the only real contenders would be those with 750 and above CFM carbs. Smaller carberated set-ups ain't gonna make the power to compete against cars they were not built to compete with by the factory. I can remember when I was a kid the 10-1 stock class, that's 10 pounds to 1 horsepower B/S then C/S had 40-50 cars entered on any Sunday in that class alone. Most of those cars are also rans in this format. It's too bad there is not a way to match up cars to compete against the cars they were conceived to perform against by the manufacturer.

I know if I were to financially capable to build a real contender, it would be one of the two or three cars off the cool list you guys mentioned that actually might have a chance for glory.

Those are some great cars, But someof them just can't compete. 1965 Cyclones never came with anything bigger than 289. Only the factory drag cars got the 427. Mavericks and comets only came with 6 cylinders and 302 2 barrels, no 4 barrel. If we want to make them legal, Im in, Ive got a 65 cyclone sitting in the driveway just waiting for a 510ci 427 with two 4s.
2800 pounds and 675 HP, YEH BABY.

Lane next to my Hemicuda at America On wheels is a 427 Comet that looks like a factory built car? Why don't you rules guys make some of theses cars legal? It makes no sense to see Bob's 427 Fairlane not be eligible to run or a 1967 WO/RO Dodge or Plymouth not legal.

Let them all run is what I say :drive .....

64-65 Cyclones with 427's were AFX cars. In 66 the factory installed the big blocks.
I wish Alan stuck around , that car was showing some possibility.
My dream build

would be a 68 Mustang coupe with a 428CJ.

Thanks Steve, You are correct the car in the museum is a 1966 Comet 427. Steve, Why a 68 428 Stang? What is the appeal of this year. Is Mike building one of these with Spencer :?:
