Hey Guys,

I am in an interesting situation right now with my toys. I am finally to the point where I can drive my '78 TA pro-touring car and have been driving the crap out of it the last few days. That being said I was given a pretty fair offer on it - obviously I am losing money - but I would let it go for that price.

That being the case, I could go nuts on my '69 Cutlass to make it uber competitive OR follow a dream of mine that would not necessarily make me legal for either styles of factory appearance racing - Super Cars or F.A.S.T. (While I never reall intended running the F.A.S.T. stuff it would be more directed toward the SuperCar series.

I recently became aware that a company was reproducing Ram Air V heads, etc... for the Pontiac platform and since this was a dealer item it wouldn't be legal. I have had a longtime dream of building a RA V '69 Trans Am clone. I would love to still bring it out and run it with you guys even though I probably couldn't get certed.

My problem is that I just got the '78 Pro-Touring TA to this point and put about 4 years into it...bought just before I met my fiancee. She loves the car and doesn't want me to get rid of it but I can't really be competitive in SuperCars if I don't. If I go the RA V route, I wouldn't be allowed to compete anyway although it would be a lot of fun having enough power on tap to run at the top of the heap...proven dyno numbers on a street 400 RA V set-up (repro heads) put down 650 hp uncorrected...That made me smile!

So....what would you guys do???

Thanks,
Dave

Dave, the repro Ram Air V heads are they cast iron? I thought you could get a Ram Air V in a T/A? Am I wrong? if the heads are Cast iron repops and you could get a Ram Air V, why would you not be allowed to race?

Now about the Pro T/A, it's very cool :bow , the other half loves it :aok , you have a killer :bow Olds motor and a Cutlass to put it in, why not continue on the track your going and run for the title of the quickest Olds :winner ?

Don't worry about being competitive. Just get the car on the track and go from there. Its more fun/relaxing and cheaper in the long run.

Build the Olds Dave but get your wife on board first, LISTEN TO TED AND RALPH!!!!!
Build it to be dependable and consistant.
Chris didn't come out of the box and get the small block title on his first year out. He had great fun in the beginning and loved the challenge of gettting the car going faster and faster with little suttle changes and also ironing out all the bugs. (not many bugs at all) you get my point???

You will have fun and if the smallblock title comes your way so be it, rememeber there are OTHER small block Olds fans here!!!!!!!! :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

See you guys Sunday, my friends and I will be arriving Sunday morning from Maple Grove Raceway where we will be participating in PINKS all out on Friday and Saturday, a wide range of Drag racing for me to experience ALL WEEKEND!!!!!! :aok :aok :aok :aok :aok :aok

I love mopar, that being said I have a soft spot in my heart for pontiacs. The RA V heads were a dealer installed option in 1970. They are iron (originals from 70 as i ran a 1966 goat with them back in the day. Made mucho power with them also.)They were shipped in the trunk from the factory if you ordered a RA V car. So you could have technically "ordered" it from the factory. Drive the pontiac, build the olds and bring it up slowly having fun along the way. Cheaper and safer. Ralph and company give good advice.

Actually, I tried to. I spent lots of money building a killer combo only to be overwhelmed once I hit the track. It was after I put the max effort combo aside and got a very basic street strip combo in my car, that I started really having fun.

My point was to dip your toe into it instead of diving in head first.

I hear ya guys...that's why I have the combo I do going in the car intially. If it's in the 12s I will be VERY happy with it. If my fiancee is behind the wheel when it does I will be even more excited!!!!!

Can't wait to see the racing this weekend!
