Degreed the cam and installed the heads. The passeger head wasn't sitting down nice and flat. So i took it off before tighten it down. Pulled the new cometic gasket off to see if the dowels were bottoming out with the thinner head gasket. Nope, but the rivet holding the head gasket together was getting pinched between the head and a protudion from the block meet. Right below the center exhaust ports. Drilled out the rivet and all is fine. Could have created havoc! Becareful with cometic and the rivers! |

It's alive!!!!!! 37lbs oil pressure at idle, runs cool like it did before bouncing of the thermostat. The only issue was when I was priming the engine I had a 1/4 drive extension and a Allen socket to drive the oil pump. I didn't want the socket to come off the ext WAY DOWN THERE! So I welded it to the ext. prime the engine oil up to both heads. Pull the ext out of the distributor hole.........and the socket was still on the end........ The hex portion wasn't though!!!!! ARRRRRGGGGG! it was still in the pump drive. After thinking about it I crushed the end where it was supposed to stay attached to. Put it back in and lightly tapped it back on the hex. Pulled it out and Ta da out it came!
