Hello folks, I tried installing a factory tach on my 1969 Dodge Superbee 440-6, 4 speed, with 4.10 gears but had zero luck. I have a stock set up in the tranny and engine. I wasn't able to install the tach and I'm taking my car to test and tune this friday (2 days) before carlisle. This will be the first time I take this car to the track. Does anyone have any idea what MPH I should be shifting at? I figure if I don't have a tach to guide me maybe I could watch the MPH to make sure I don't redline and possibly hurt the engine.

thanks, JA.

Tach? don't worry, you won't be needing a tach :gears . You will be to busy rowing gears :gears to focus on a tach on and 1/8 mile track. It will be over before you start. The SuperBird has a tich toc and I have no time to look at it when I race. Tachs are for Automatics :stir You have nothing else to do so you need a tach to keep yourself busy  .

Try a Shift Light. You don't want to blow your motor over revving.

Hope to see you at Carlisle.

The great thing about a stock Mopar is, if you over rev or miss a gear it will float the valves. I am sure you and I will be floating the valves once we miss a gear our first times out :gears . I recommend a rev limiter as a must, Shift light a very good idea and Tach not so important.

In E-Town this spring I had issues with the 71 RR's: Shifter loose, Shifter plate loose. (I should of listen to Billy :bang and let him double check my work). The result was the first two passes I had issues grabbing gears. I grabbed air :nuts and floated the valves.

I have tach in my GTX with a shift light. The tach looks cool but the the light is the goods. Even with nothing Juan you can feel it and hear it. Ralph is right about the 1/8th mile, over pretty quick. Just be sure of your shifts. I can't wait to see your car, the A-12's are my favorite.

Thanks guys, I'll be at Carlisle regardless of tach, but a light does sound like a super duper idea. I did some math while at work (don't tell my boss) and I think I have a pretty good idea of when I should shift based on MPH, but I'm sure most of my time will be spent on shifting like everyone mentioned....I can't wait.

Ralph, I didn't know about the floating valves. That's very interesting! I'm going to have to read up on that as that sounds very interesting.

Asta la pasta!

You guys were right, there's little to no time to be looking at tachs and other guages while going down the 1320. I took my car to the track for the first time last friday for a little test and tune and shifting that 4 speed really keeps you busy but it sure is a lot of fun though! A tach would be good for take offs but after that an indicator light is all I need for sure.

See ya at Carlisle!!!
