Great pics Bill and I think its cool beans that you're going with a C body, you'll get a lot of thumbs up when that bad boy runs 12s or 11s.

Later, JA.

Thanks Juan. Sorry I did not get a chance to meet you at Carlisle.

Someday, maybe 12's when the funds permit the engine that I want to build.

More photos to come soon.

Here is the latest updated on my car:

I brought the '68 Sport Fury home last night from my friend's house who did the additional paint and body work to make the engine compartment and a few other areas of the car look worthy of representing full-size MOPAR C Body's in the SuperCar series. The engine bay looks great. I am very pleased with the work that I had done, which probably looks better than the rest of the car that is wearing 12 year old paint.

Last Saturday, a friend came over and helped me get the 383 engine out of my shed and into the garage. The 383 had an automatic transmission attached and thankfully, my 1981 Ford 1900 diesel tractor has a strong front loader that was up to the task of lifting and moving the engine and transmission into the garage. Even with a couple hundred pound wood chipper attached to the back of the tractor for a counter weight, the rear axle was a little light with all that weight hanging up front.

After carefully power-washing the 383 we removed the transmission, as I have another one that I want to use for this project. The engine is currently on my engine hoist waiting for me to remove the torque converter and get it on to an engine stand so some disassembly, new gaskets, pumps etc and correct manifolds can be installed. Then the engine will be ready for paint and detailing. At this time, I'm not sure if the car will see track time this year as there are a lot of little things that are needed after the engine and transmission have all the work done on them that I want to do before they are installed.

Lastly, I found freshened rear diff center section for the car and hope to be able to make a purchase tomorrow.

Bill, that engine bay is screaming for a stroker motor!!
400 block, 4.15 crank,H beam rods,flat tops,roller cam...
500'' of fun...make it a drag only car because you have other cars to drive on the street. 4.10 or 4.30 gears and a couple of bodies in the trunk , you'll be yank'in the left front tire! :drinking
That would be the ultiment sleeper ! think about it.

Shawn: A stroker motor is the long-term plan when money permits. I've got the donor motor, I just need the cash, which might take a few years. Thanks for the encouragement and by the way, the yellow ' 68 Sport Fury is only one of five 68 Furys that keep company with the 71 wagon, a 71 Fury coupe and a 74 Dodge B 200 Royal Sportsman window van that is a survivor and is a neat vehicle but I think it is going to go up for sale.

Update:

This project has been on hold for over a year due to lack of funds and because my back is essentially shot and I am very limited in what I can do. Back surgery won't help.

The initial plan is to install a low mileage 383 that I have. I basically have everything I need to re-gasket the engine, replace things like the oil pump and install a correct '68 intake and C-Body HP exhaust manifolds. Eventually, when/if funds permit, I would like to put a stroker motor in the car. The car should weigh around 4200 lbs with my large body in it. I have a rebuilt sure grip pumpkin with 3.73 gears to move that much weight.

I really want to do a cam swap and need to find some coin for that purchase. I also need a torque converter and looks like Billy Atwood can me help me out in that regard. :beer

Being underemployed for several years SUCKS!

I have a 727 that was built strong that was behind a tweaked 440 for only a short time. I want to have the transmission checked out and have any dried out gaskets and seals replaced as this trans has been sitting for several years. I am also trying to save up to have that done. I will also need to purchase some polyglass tires. I am trying to sell my low mileage "survivor" '74 Dodge Royal Sportsman passenger van, looking for $5k, to help fund this and a few other stalled projects.

In addition to the engine mild freshening, installation etc., the pumpkin needs to be installed, one or more emergency brake cables need to be replaced and ideally I would like to swap the front drums out for disc brakes and I have the parts to do that swap.

With some financial good luck and some help from some friends I hope that I can get this car on the track sometime in 2013.

Any Mopar guys with '69 and earlier cars who can use a correct appearance solid state voltage regulator that is compatible with points or electronic ignitions can help fund my project with the purchase of a voltage regulator for a SuperCar member price of $20.00.

I hope my next update will be positive.

Happy Holidays to all.

Shawn how about a cool tow vehicle for the Polara or Dart? You can bring the whole family and your own cheering section for 2013 :stir . She would also look real cool at the NHRA Nationals and the NHRA Reunion @ NH.

Bills Van hauls a$$ :drive .

So Bill:

Lets get that Fury together. We big car guys need some company on the track. Jack Anderson, you and I could be the Three Tank driving Amigos :roll It would be neat to see a 12 second car with fender skirts. :aok

Also, might you have a decent pair of 383 small chamber heads 66-69 and maybe a matching intake?

Hal,

Are you volunteering to help with the wrenching etc?

I plan on racing the car with the skirts on (if allowed by the track) but 12's are not going to be in the near future.

The Chrysler "915" heads are the closed chamber big valve heads that were only produced in 1967 and are not easy to find. All of the heads that I have are open chamber heads which is what is correct for 1968. Any reason that you ask?
