Update: This project got somewhat back burnered by a few things. First, by getting my new tow vehicle, a '94 Monaco Class A Cummins powered diesel pusher motorhome, some TLC that it needed as well as to make sure it would be reliable. I am almost done on the motorhome until I can save up for a better running LP generator. BTW, If anyone is familiar with working on LP generators, please send me an email if you are willing to try to get the one I have running better. Second, in early May an 18-year old girl failed to grant the right of way when she had a stop sign at a T intersection two miles from my house and pulled out right in front of my wife. Our insurance company totalled her 2004 Sebring Convertible but we decided to keep it and have it repaired as the damage was essentially a 3/4 nose, radiator, condensor, battery and some misc. items. This meant this car went to my body and paint guy bumping the Fury from being next in line. I picked up the Sebring and dropped the Fury off this past Monday to have it's engine by painted and some other TLC done to make the car look more presentable. I should have it back in about a month. I will be selling parts in the swap meet at the Chrysler Nationals and hope to make enough to move on to the next step, doing a bit of freshening to the 383 destined for the freshly painted engine bay. Until this car is ready, I will continue to make some events with my green '68 Sport Fury. |

im drooling over your motorhome. i just spent 3k on my 94 37 foot bounder last week and its still nothing great power wise. Thing about selling it and looking at safari(monaco owns now) 24 foot with an isuzu turbo diesle or a 6.5 diesel will see what happens.. Ryan |

Ryan: My 94' Monaco has already been named The Money Pit. We knew we would have to invest some money but it has gone well beyond what we expected. Most of the money spent was for maintenance and repairs on the RV systems and six new tires. Mechanically, so far, things have been good with just a little service needed. This has an 8.3L 300 HP Cumins Turbo Diesel and an Allison six-speed automatic. This appears to be one of the best combinations out there for a large Class A motorhome especially if you are going to tow with it. A lot of the Class A's have the 5.9 Cumins which is fine if you are not going to tow. My 2 cents based on research I did and the few months that I have owned this one is to get an RV with the large Cumins if you plan on towing with it. From what I have heard, the Safari's and the Holiday Ramblers that Monaco built were Chevys vs. Caddys when compared to most of the Monaco badged coaches. Good luck with your search. |

Here are some photos of the work in progress on the engine bay, front subframe and front suspension showing that there is more than one way to get things done, especially if your paint and body person owns a large backhoe/front loader.

We have paint in the engine bay  Still more work to be done and a few other body issues to address that I should have had addressed back in 1998 when the body work and paint were completed by a shop that is no longer in business.

being a GM guy it just seems weird to see the body color in the bay, even though i have seen it on other mopars! good to see progress, and the challenge of a big car! what rear gear will you have? seems like a numerically high gear would be needed, but would prob. suprise some people!

Ted: There are a lot of MOPARs out there that were restored by GM restoration shops that have black engine bays GM spatter paint in the trunk. In fact when this car was painted back in '98, the trunk was done in GM spatter paint and I had to re-spray it the correct color. It gets more confusing with the MOPAR full-size cars because from '65-68 the engine bays were all body color and from '69-73 the inner fenders and the firewall from the upper lip down were painted black. The car should weigh no more than 4,000 lbs with a 383 or 400 Chrysler (had to specify Chrysler for Hal) block in it. I have not decided on a gear ratio yet but I am thinking somewhere in the range of 3.55 - 3.91. The plan, due to budget constraints is to start off with a stock low mileage engine, however, down the road, I want to put together something with a bit more HP so my ideally I would like to find one gear that will suit both engine combinations and to be honest, I am struggling with gear selection at this time. I'm not sure if this car will see the track this year but if things go the way I want them to, it will see track time next year for sure. |

Bill, definately lower is better maybe even 4:10s to get that barge moving. It won't be too much fun on the street though. I have found that 3:70s are about all you want to do if you are going to drive it with 14" tires. With 15" tires maybe 3:90s. I run 4:56s with 14" tires to get 1.90s 60 foot times with no power 327cu in 260 rear wheel HP. But I rarely drive mine on the street anymore. I am glad to hear you are considering a 400 Chevy as well
