Spent Wednesday previewing the Cars at the Barrett Jackson Auction at Mohegan Sun. The majority of cars for sale seamed driver quality. Only a hand full of very impresive Iron. I would also say 1/3 of them seemed to be pigs! mis matched tires, dull chrome, ripped interiors, missing parts, Macco paint jobs, and just simply JUNK!

I also thought the Barrett Jackson excitment didn't last that long on Thursday, The first 30 cars did more than I thought and then it seemed like the floor vacated and it was a used car auction more than a collector car auction.

Lets hear your experience of the auction.

Definitely from Hal's pictures on FB not super impressive. Not every auction can be a winner. These type of auctions are not my gig, I am into the equipment auctions where I buy my equipment and trucks. We just purchased a 2014 Ford 250 6.7 diesel with 40K miles on it through Ritchie brothers at an auction up at Ontario Canada for $23K. I would say if you bought this truck locally Cost $3K to get it down and still a steal. Something about the Canadian auctions things go cheap. I look at Barrett Jackson as the amateur auction where people can go and pay above retail.

So did anyone who attended the auction buy anything? Also from being on the spot what would one say was a highlight? I know Ralph wrote that the quality did not seem there but from watching the show on TV seemed like some nice rides. Did the quality improve as the auction went on? That being said look like a nice time from everyone's FB posts

I agree! Mostly junk or sat night specials that went for way more than they should.

My highlight was meeting the infamous superstar Bill Atwood!
Met up with him in the tunnel with his entourage but didnt get any pix!

All was good until i got robbed by a one armed bandit! After that i went home and worked on the chevelle, which im convinced is now a 6 figure car

When I sold cars, there used to be a quarterly special interest auction at Southern Auto Auction in Windsor. The quality of the cars was on par with the early stuff I saw at Barrett Jackson on Thursday. I was really surprised as I was under the impression that BJ stuff was top notch. Ralph correct me if I am wrong, there is a buyers fee of 10% on top of the top bid price. Steep.

I was laughing a the bids on some of the memorabilia. I was amazed, a water can with a long neck for filling radiators, I remember seeing them at gas stations. This one was painted green and had a Sinclair logo on it. It went for $1100. :shrug

I'll go again next year though as the casino is only 9 miles from my house.

10% on both ends, Buyer and Seller.

Wow they kill it on both sides. I am used to equipment auctions where as an example with Ritchie brothers the seller fee can be as high as 10% but depending what and how much you are selling goes down and on the buyer side it is a 2.5% fee.

Barrett Jackson will not stick around past 2017 unless there is a vast improvement in quality of consignment. Too many 80s and 90s jags benzes and porsches to keep TV folks interested in covering the event. They pulled out of vegas last year abruptly

They signed a five year agreement with Mohegan Sun.
