Thanks, Boy, my legs were pretty tired by the time I got home. Heavy clutch and nasty cam, two springs on the throttle return. Drove the country route back to Salem.

Chris, Blackie lead a secondary life for a number of years. In the mid 70's I built it into a serious for its time Stock Eliminator car. Took off everything I could unbolt got the weight down to 4050 lbs. Built a .060 over 427 with blueprinted heads, forged pistons, low tension rings, Lunati cam, L-88 crank. Ran 4:88 gears and a wide ratio Muncie to get it moving. Rules back then dictated 9" tires and no electric fuel pump. The car ran in F/S on an index of 12.55 and the car ran right on the index. In 1979 (I believe) the rules changed to allow an electric pump which really helped the big block GM cars with Q-jets. The rules also changed to require a roll bar down to F/S and naturally the Index dropped.

I had no interest in cutting anything on the car so out went the race motor, tranny and gears. I put the Original numbers matching set-up back in with a small cam, along with all the other stuff I took out. I got my big tire Nova about then and Blackie sat in the garage a lot. About 10 years ago I made some passes as you saw it Monday with original 3:55 gears and it ran 13.70s. The only thing left is to reinstall the stock exhaust manifolds and A/C which maybe I'll get to some day.
