What's with the red brake drums. Is that an AAR thing? :pop

It's a Chrysler thing. In 1969 Plymouth and Dodge started painting the brake drums red for an additional $10.05. It was an option found on most AAR's in 1970.

Interesting!
I guess it was just a look they wanted.
Kinda like these fancy brake calipers we see on open rim cars now!

Actually the way it came to be is. One night in 1968 on Woodward Ave in the Detroit suburbs. Chrysler engineers saw many musclecars sporting painted drums and they said hey we can do that on the line. And that is the rest of the story.

Also, wouldn't a car built for the road racing have front disc brakes as standard equipment? :pop

No! If it were a GM most likely as they don't believe in installing big enough drum brakes to stop the car :shrug .

Maybe that is why Mopar could not win a Trans Am Championship during that era. No disc brakes. Three Ford, Two Chevy, One AMC (Well that's kind of a MOPAR now) :moon

The Drum brake are probably lighter for our series anyhow.

They are heavier, But less drag than a disc.
