I am becoming a Quadrajet carburetor wizard and have built two maxed out racing carbs with two differnt approaches. I can't wait to try them out. I also took apart the carb I have been running tonight and discovered some interesting things. One of the primary metering rods had pulled out of the main jet and was mislocated and bent. Also, both secondard accelerating well tubes fell out of the Air horn. I wonder how long I have been running with these conditions and how much they affected performance. |

I meant to call, instead of soldering up the hole for the step up piston cant you just remove the rods from the tree and change jets. That way no permanent change to the carb. |

Stump, You one smart guy. Why didn't I think of that? What I did on one carb was tap the hole to 1/4-fine and put in a set screw with epoxy. I suppose that is still reversible. The one I am fixing now is original to the 427 Impala so I will not do any butchering on that one. I have one more to finish by this weekend and I will be removing the outer venturi ring which will increase the CFM to about 870. Can't go racing this weekend too many things going on. Are you going?? |

He tells me they're classified! He's probably pulling back apart to go bigger as we speak. |

It's as big as you can make a small block Chevy motor. Ran into a little setback today. I have to get the intake milled as the block was decked. |
