I got a new set of wheels and tires for my Belvedere. I can't seem to get any of the 10 lug nuts off the left side wheels. Now before you MOPAR people start on me, I know that 66 Plymouths have left hand threads on the drivers side. The wheels I am trying to take off are some kind of Cragar wheel and they use acorn nuts with conical seats. I am up to 120lbs on my impact wrench and I tried a large lug wrench and it feels like something is bending maybe the lug wrench or the stud but nothing is coming loose. Tonight I sprayed penetrating lube around the lug nuts but I doubt it will do much good with the caps on the lug nuts.

Additional info:

Right side (right hand thread) lug nuts come off no problem.
Tried one nut on left side of car counter clockwise to loosen in case someone changed studs at some point. No luck.
Ready to try a torch on the nuts tomorrow and probably ruin the wheels on the left side

Any ideas would be appreciated :shrug

Did someone change the studs to standard threads?
Won't hurt to try, though I guess you already did...

I tried just one nut trying to loosen counterclockwise but they may be so tight now from trying to get them off with the impact wrench that it would not move. For all I know there could be a hybrid situation here with some left hand and some right hand studs. Right Rhett? :stir I noticed that one of the nuts is stamped 1/2-20 but no indication on any that I can see showing L or R.

Time to up the air pressure and set the impact gun on max or get a piece of pipe on a four-way lug wrench or get a really long breaker bar and jump on it if you have to.

Sometimes I have had to go both directions a bit to try to get them loose. Use lots of PB Blaster. To bad that they are Acorn nuts as the left hand thread studs usually have an "L" engraved at the end of the wheel stud. Sounds like they may have been converted over to Right Hand thread studs.

Many of the chrome lug nuts have an "L" stamped on the side if they are left hand thread and nothing stamped if they are right hand thread. Good luck.

120lbs is all my compressor puts out. I am going to try the extension on the breaker bar and see what happens. If I knew for sure that the Acorn nuts always have an L I would say that someone changed them to right hand studs because I can't find any marking. I think I'll start on the rear as the studs should be easier to change if I break some.

Emailed Cragar and the tech guy said that their left hand thread nuts have an L or groove on them. I checked out the car and all the left side nuts have 1/2 -20 and nothing else. So I took the leap of faith and with the air turned all the way up got the nuts off. It turns out all the studs were changed to right hand threads. :winner Thank goodness I have learned patience after all these years. I hate breaking s--t for no good reason :rock
