Answer to the Bullitt question: Both cars were owned by Warner Brothers. Car #1 was used primarily for stunts and was quite damaged by the end of filming. It was crushed shortly after filming and is probably in the Kia you saw on the way to work. Car #2 was used for many of the close up shots and was still in pretty good shape after film production ceased. An employee at Warner Brothers bought the car and kept it for about a year. In 1969, the car was put up for sale in Hemmings and ended up on the east coast. The second owner kept it until 1972 when an ad was placed in a local newspaper and was sold to it's current owner. The current owner has refused to sell it - even to Steve McQueen himself who made numerous attempts to acquire the car. The car has been verified by Kevin Marti and today the car is stored in an undisclosed location. The owner says that he plans to give the car to his son, but has steadfastly refused to make the car available for public viewing or even to be photographed. Sad. |
