I'm considering a different property and likely the best set up there would be a 5 car garage with multiple lifts. I currently do not have any lifts so that part is new already, plus also factoring in spacing between lifts as well. I'd be interested in thoughts/opinions from any of you who have been are in a similar situation.

Thanks!

At the house I have a 3 car Garage with the center door having a 4 post lift. (4 car cars in the garage) 9 foot wide doors 7.5 foot tall. I ordered the lift extra high to be able to walk under it with ease and extra wide so as to not have to nogiociate the posts with the every day driver. 7000 # lift 220v hydrolic pump. need minimum 11 foot head clearance, I have 14 foot and have a celing fan so it all works. One other thing that may be helpful. I placed the lift as close to the overhead door allowing as much space in front of the lift to work on the car and to move around. Yes it is bolted to floor!!

Garage a bit messy, but you can see the idea.

plan well and you wil be happy,

good luck

Thanks Bill & Overruled. Very helpful. The measurement requirements are helpful. My largest concern is room in between lifts and ease in and out for daily drivers. I'm not sure whether I'll go this route or not but wanted to get educated on it.

Thanks!

Carguy,

I went the opposite direction that Overruled did. I have a 7000 lb capacity lift with a narrow footprint so that the posts are not in the way of anything around the lift. My lift has beefy posts that do not need to be anchored to the floor.

I built my garage with 13'+ floor to truss height. I have had my '74 Dodge van on the lift and have been able to park a car underneath. I probably have 4-6" between the posts and the sides of the car. I have no problem with moving a full size car in and out under the lift.

The only small downside is that my van, which I just sold, barely fits with the small door mirrors clearing the posts by less than 2" and part of the front tires over the outboard side of the ramp due to the offset of the rims. My 2002 Dodge Ram Quad Cab fits on the lift if I fold in the mirrors and again the outer edges of the tires hang over a bit but it is not a safety issue. Consider what you are going to do with the lift. If you have a full size truck you are going to use the lift to work on, you might want to go wider and would likely want to have the lift far enough away from the garage door so that you can close the door with the truck on the lift.

I recommended several drip trays and at least two jack trays. Aluminum (vs. steel) removable ramps are another good option as the steel ones are very heavy. Some of the lifts have wheel kits so you can move them around. Depending on your set up, you might want to consider that option. The company that built my lift is out of business and I regret not getting a wheel kit. Good luck.
