This car was featured in another thread, belonged to a good friend of mine. Recently changed hands and is now owned by my father.

The plan is to build a nice driver for the old man that can still hold it's own. It will be Sundance Orange Metallic with a Sandalwood gut. No GT stripes or badging. We have a 72' WT coded 400 long block, 2.64:1 1st gear super T10 4 speed, and a 3.55:1 posi 12 bolt rear. The car has factory air, PS, PDB - so it won't be a lightweight. Keeping the bench seat, and installing a tilt column. In the process of doing the rust repairs currently, will post some new pictures of that by the end of the week.

Some progress of the rust repairs. It's been slow going, I started a new job and don't have as much time to help out.

The passenger side needed next to nothing in terms of a patch...

Going to cut this out and replace the panel, rather than weld up all those dent puller holes and fight with the warped panel.

Image

Trunk pan showed up yesterday, the original has a lot of "buckshot" from the panel under the rear window leaking.

And this didn't help get the bodywork any further along, but is progress towards the finished product...

15 X 7's to replace the factory 14X6's. The factory 14's are lighter, but less tire sizes available.

Wish I had more to report, but the only new progress lately is this:

Trunk pan is in. Still have a few small spots to finish welding up. When I have had time, I've been helping my father work on his old truck. (67' C-10, box tube chassis, LS1/4L60E, etc.)

Haven't touched this car since February, but started buying engine parts last week. Going to drop off the block and crank this week, then order pistons and bearings based on the findings. It is currently .040" over, hoping it doesn't need to go more - the next oversize piston is .060"

Will be finishing the rust repair around the windshield, then taking the body off the frame. Good project for this fall when it's not so stinkin' hot outside! :sick

Bores finished up nicely at .040, ordered pistons. They arrived Wednesday, already dropped them off to the machinist. Hoping to have a complete short block in 2-3 weeks. Just a teaser for now, more pictures of a complete short block to follow.

Major set back, both sets of heads I have are cracked. :( Any Pontiac guys out there that can hook a brother up? The shortblock is done, need a set or heads ASAP.

If you were closer I'd take care of you, but shipping costs on core heads isn't cost effective. :shrug

What part of Florida are you in? There are quite a few good Pontiac guys down there. Are you a member of any of the Pontiac sites, like http://forums.performanceyears.com/forums/ ? They've got a good classified section on there and I'm sure someone could help you out.

I am in Orlando, already got hosed by someone on PY on one set of heads. Found a pair of 6X kicking around the shop. Going to try and make those work tomorrow. Hopefully they aren't cracked. :?

Butler Performance hooked it up today. Should have a pair of heads ready to go in the next 7-10 days.

Got a cam question, using a Melling 067 replacement cam. What is the best position to install it? Straight up, advanced, retarded?

Depends!
I think straight up and only adv or ret as needed once you run the car!
If you spin bad and run out of steam, retard it! And vice versa!
