Ralph, thank you for calling to check on us on Friday. It means a lot.
The entire town is in a state of shock. Having kids in the school system myself makes it even worse. There are two families that we know well that have lost a loved one. More that are friends of friends. Newtown still really is a small town where people know each other.
I am truly heartbroken.
I grew up 1 mile away from Sandy Hook School. I started kindergarten there when I was 4 years old. I hit baseballs and played catch on the fields with my Dad and big brother. I had summer camp there. I played youth soccer on the fields there. I rode my bike there to play on the playground. My little brother and sister went there. When I got married, our reception was at the firehouse in front of the school. My own kids did not attend school there, but many of their friends did. They've played soccer and baseball games on the fields there. My son played basket ball and wrestled in the gym, went to Cubscouts in cafeteria.
Friends lost their children there. I am truly heartbroken.
