I've been getting the 442 ready to run. I finally got the motor back a few weeks ago. I put some 6 cylinder springs up front and replaced the bushings in the upper control arms to "loosen" things up. Now I'm getting the clutch set up dealing with forks, throwout bearings and pivots. I think (hope) I'm close on the pivot height and forks that don't grab TO bearings.

The next issue is fuel delivery. I'm told that a mechanical pump won't support the horsepower level of the new motor (555 hp 605 lb/ft) and to go with an electric. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to create a "dummy" mechancal pump to run and electric pump.

Any suggeststions appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

I know that John had a dummy pump on his Olds.

Ralph,

Thanks for the reminder. I PM'd John he asked me to give him a call. I'll try and talk with him this evening.

After all the advice. I took apart a pump to see how it worked. The needed welding was over my head so I took it to AutoFab Racecars down the street. Rob, the owner, worked it and this is what it looked like before reassembly.

Very cool, I would love to know details about how to get it apart without destroying it. And likewise about how to put it back together without it looking like it has been taken apart. Not legal for my car, but maybe one day I'll be able to afford to put together a S.A. car.

I can't speak for all pumps but in the case of the Olds fuel pump I just gently worked the "crimped" upper assembly free of the cast lower assembly. I did this by "uncrimping" the upper assembly with a small prying tool. You can see the evidence of this as you look at the photo. To put it back together it just needs to be re-crimped.

I think I am going to look for an old pump that is no good, then take it apart and attempt to put it back together. For giggles, and to see if I can actually pull it off. Thanks again for sharing.
