thanks for the quick replies guys.

Ralph, your idea sounds groovy. I like the price, life time warranty, and no shipping charges, very nice!

thanks, Juan.

Thank you for all the input fellas.

I went with a mini starter from a 1991 Dodge Dakota-bought from Autozone for $65-after I returned the core. I had to grind/file down the body of the mini starter a little to get the bolts to line up. It works well and it's much lighter and easier to put in the car. I doubt I'll ever go back to the original type starter.

Thanks a bunch for the tip Ralph!

Nice, bet it weighs almost half of what the original does. Does it start any better?

I am surprised you had to grind the mini starter? I have never had any issues with all the ones I've installed. I buy it, n install it. Glad it worked for you.

hello Ted, yes, it's a 69 date coded 440 block punched 30 over. i didn't have to shave a lot off...just a little to round it out as it had an edge that was hitting the round cut out in the block..no biggie..it was fun to do.

although, using a thread chaser to clean up the threads for the starter bolt holes was not fun at all...what a pain.

thanks, juan.

Ralph,

Just want to check as I like your Dakota starter idea. Will it be fine for 11.25:1 compression ratio?
