Yes ryan, the 401 is better, but we are looking at the 408 head

Seems on target, and gives another option, for an equivalent head, while remaining reliable !

Since my recent situation, i may go that way too!

Check it out guys, let us know your opinion!

i couldnt open that link but the head is more than likely the 401 casting nhra approved head for stock eliminator that gm calls there l88 replacement. That head is GREATLY improved in material and somehwat in performance as well. It does look different externally..made by edelbrock for GMPP

077s would be your best bet if your staying in supercars competition.

if the 401 got approved someone might not be happy but another someone would be....

my brother put them on his zl1 clone...

I opted for 188 open chamber cast iron heads vs 840 closed chamber heads for an 1969 L72 combo. The cost, reliability and availability are the main issues. However, after Teds misfortune with his old closed chamber head, he would be back together alot quicker if he was using open chamber heads as replacement cast iron or aluminum heads more redibly available.

Hi guys,

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving !

Wanted to check in to see if there was anymore thought on using the NHRA replacement head ?

Hope everyone has a productive winter off-season.

Sorry i didnt get back to you sooner!
I had hoped to be able to use this head also, but after a closer inspection, it does look externally different than stock heads, and through its strength and better flow characteristics, it would be considered a performance gain to allow this head!

The rules committee has agreed at this time that it should not be approved for competition!

Aluminum head choices at this time for bbc would be the ( abbreviated)
392
842
074
077

Tom, thanks for inquiring, and hope to see you at our events!

Thanks Ted !

No problem at all.

Probably going to go with a 990 Cast Iron head rect port head. Look forward to coming out to watch an event, maybe my kid will be ready to race by then as well. Learners Permit at this point..:)

Looking at an iron headed combination

990 heads
or 188 heads.

I assume these are legal as well for an LS6 motor combination.

Does anyone know if the rectangular port cast iron casting 14097088 is allowed? its the typical 325 cc intake runner,119 cc combustion chamber.

In my opinion, it should be ok because iron rectangle heads came on the 70 LS-6. But I would check with the committee before I spent any money. Just sayin'
