Alot of guys will use the adjustables, and set pinion angle, then run the car to check if further changes are needed!
Once set, you weld and redrill uppers to the needed dimension!

Andrew, correct me if i am wrong once desired pinion angle is found, it would be left alone right?

Ted, that is typically the case. Set the pinion angle with the drivers side upper and then attach the passenger side. If you change anything in the driveline, including the motor it should be re-checked. It could be tough to get it excatly where the adjustable arm was, but not impossible I guess.

is allowing adjustable uppers a possibility?

Not for certification!
If you come to a few races and have them, it wont be a problem if you are making an effort to get the car correct! But after a while its gotta be right!

Kinda like headers for a first time guy!

I usually go to tnt night etc. to try things out, and it gives me extra seat time to! :aok

This is a pic. of my trans. mount after Atco.I always do a visual inspection after every race except i did not after Etown. It almost cost me big time.I put the engine in the day before Etown and forgot to tighten the 2 mount bolts and as you can see one is missing and the other one was hanging as you see it with 3 turns before it fell out.

To touch on what Ted said :aok . You can run your combo with the group. If your Musclecar is more of a day 2 (Headers, Radial tires, Wrong carb, heads ETC.) Bring it out before you change anything, run with the group make sure you enjoy the class then talk to the tech guys and we will get you on the path to certification (no limit to how long it takes you to get there, as long as progress is being shown toward certification).

Very important- The only way you will not be allowed to compete is if your gunning for the Top Eliminator position (11.99 or quicker). In this case you need to be 100% correct and ready for certification no exceptions.

Many of our racers start as day 2 Musclcars they have run with the group for years and have made changes to get there Musclcars closer to certification. If your running mid pack (where all the fun is :hungry :winner :beer ) you will be mixed in with Certified cars and cars on the way to certification.

Don't wait to be 100% correct to enjoy the festivities :winner .

Thanks Ralph,

I really would like to thank everyone for their input and advice.

The car would likely be under 11.99 right off the bat, so I want to get everyhting as correct as possible. Won't be able to run until late summer as my son will be driving. He will get used to racing running a mostly stock '87 Buick Turbo T in the high 13's starting in the spring and then get acclimated to the Chevelle by the end of summer. By that time it should be 99% correct :cross: so that's why i am anxious to make my list of modifications he needs to work on with me supervising.

Should be real fun teaching him..

Look forward to the first race we can come watch too.

Tom

Generally these cars are set up with the pinion angle set for maximum traction and it is left as is. However,on a good track you can take a couple of degrees out.
