this goes out to the GM guys, looking for some help with the rodchester Q-jet,for competition use in this series. I have a couple of leads on where I could take it , but, I am sure those are not the only two places out there. any help would be appriciated. would be going on a 71 chevelle bbc, stick, heavy car.

Cliff Ruggles is the man when it comes to Q-jets. He wrote the book on Q-jet performance- literally!
He's done a few all out carbs for stock appearing racers. He's got some of my stuff sitting in his shop now. The only down side is that he's got a looooooong lead time to get them done.

Here's his website- http://www.cliffshighperformance.com/

Thank you for the quick response. He looks like he knows his stuff, definitely worth looking into. How long is the lead time, how long in advance does he need??? Mike

I don't know his current lead time, but if I had to guess I'd say you wouldn't be running it in 2010. :o

You can call the shop though to find out from him- the number is on the site.

Just out of curiosity what modifications does a QJ need for competition other than having a collection of tuning parts on hand?

Chris,
Dean does ALOT of internal tricks inside. What they are in particular, I don't know. I do know that I have had great results with his carbs and also they look great.

A properly tuned Q-jet can support some decent horsepower with stock castings. If going all out though, they can be heavily modified inside to flow more air and fuel.

Hi Mike,
Edelbrock makes a performance carb kit with Primary, Secondary Metering Rods, Perf. Accel pump, Secondary Metering Rod Hangers. I use this to adjust the the Secondary rate and fuel. I will get you the number of the kit tomorrow. It is approx $100. You may want to start collecting Q-Jet for parts. Maybe even building one for high altitude racing and one for Low. I put studs in my manifold with nuts and washers for ease of changeover.

Hi John, Thanks. I know hat we had spoke at a couple of the races last year about my carb issue, and I was thinking about haveing a "pro" build one for me. But having a kit and afew extras might not be bad either. Mike
