OK,

I've been busy but haven't started to document the build as of yet. So here goes!!!

A while back, Ralph pulled up and unloaded a truckload of Mopar LA small block. Here's what I got and have been tripping over for a while now.

A nicely machined block,

A big ole pile of parts....

The block needed a little bit more prep work, mainly checking for rod interference which is hit or miss (pun intended) on stroker small blocks.

I mocked up one rod assembly and noticed that it didn't hit but was too close for comfort.

So out came the die grinder with the carbide burr and I chamfered all 8 cylinders like I have done on all the other builds. It was like second nature to me.

The block went off to the shop for cam bearing install and a final cleaning to rid it of grinding chips.

I've since got it back, installed freeze plugs, checked main bearing clearance and installed the crank.

OK,

The K1 4" stroke forging is all set. Bearing clearances and thrust spot on! :aok

ARP studs hold the caps down but on small block mopars, the oil pump covers one of the bolts. When you use a stud, you can't get the pump on even after shortening the stud because the nut is too tall. In the past, I used a stock bolt in this area but recently have machined the bolt pad down on the main cap to allow me to use the ARP stuff. You'd think ARP would include a bolt in their stud kit to let the builder choose.

Rear cap oil passage is radiused to match the pump port.

Forged Wiseco pistons are hung on the K1 rods. How come you get the hang of spirolock installation by the 8th piston??

Next up is fitting the rings and onto piston installation!!

great viewing material!

will this be along the lines of you duster build, or more reliability orientated?

Is there an aftermarket block that would offer more cubes?

keep up the good work?

Chris, you had mentioned at one time you wouldnt rule out a chevy build.

would you go with a small block there also?

Ted,

I must have been drinking. :drinking

Although I have to say the most common "hot rod" motor in history is extremely lacking in stock appearing racing.

yes i agree!

this begs the question?

lets hear from the chevy camp, what would be the best chevy small block combo for S/A racing?

i say prob. a screaming Z28, or certainly a light, chevy II,

it really boils down to which car would have the best heads, and intake!

LT-1?

hmmmm.

Back on the streets (Mid 70's) in my town the car to beat was a 66 Chevy II with the L-79 option, and one of the badest Chevy's I drove was a 70 Z-28 man that Lt-1, pulled like a big block.

I owned a few GM Muscle but these 2 small blocks stickout...

Either one would be my vote!.. for the future "Grumpys Toy" of the Supercar series. :cheers

i think its tough to build a small block in a world of big blocks, so i give those who do alot of credit!

maybe in the not to distant future there will be a small block class!

Then the small block winner could run the big block winner :-D

How about a smallblock just goes out to win the whole thing?
