Had to make a call to get some offset cam keys to get the right installed number. It was 3 degrees too far advanced, now its spot on.

Thats a wrap! Timing cover installed. That balancer will get blasted to provide a little tooth for the Chrysler blue to stick to. Now its time to move onto scraper install..... Tomorrow.

Crank scrapers have been fit and "glued" to the block with RTV. These take the place of the cork rail gaskets.

Starting to look like a motor! Pistons pop out .010". Resultant compression ratio will be 12.2:1.

I wanted to double check the balancer timing mark with a piston stop. I don't even know why they engrave them zero is off so much. :shrug Let alone the marks on the front side. Just ship them with a timing tape and make people check. You can see the difference, about 2 degrees. We'll install timing tape using the new notch as 0 once its painted. Notice the nice pronounced marks on the timing cover. Wish my motor had them.

Chris, are most aftermarket balancers off that many degrees, or just the one in particular that you installed on this motor? Have you run into this problen before?

Looking good. What head gaskets are you going to be using? What are the specs on the cam? What heads?
It has more cubic inch, lighter rotating assembly, and more compression than the dusters motor. Should I be worried?

I'd suggest you check them all. You are checking lots of potential tolerance issues. The crank keyway to the crank throw, the key to the balancer hub, the marks on the outer ring of the balancer to the hub and the timing pointer location. It's a 15 minute procedure and ensures you are spot on.

I'm going to keep the headgaskets simple, Felpro 1008's. The cam is a solid flat tappet spec'ed by Jeff Patterson. I tend to think the cam spec's are a little proprietary, I didn't share numbers on the cam Dwayne picked for me. Dwayne did the heads, Ralph asked him to do get them as good as the ones I had and of coure he came thru.

The car looks good Brian. It will look better lined up against a certain black demon. Should be fun too.

Be careful with the 1008's, we ran them on the AAR's motor (dusters motor). Had 2 fire rings blow out in no time, maybe 20-30passes each time. Without cam specs I don't have an idea where your cylinder pressures are going to be but with 12.2 static versus 11.8, I would imagine it will be the same if not more on the demons motor. Run cometics and never have to worry about it.

I think I will wait for Sharleen to drive the Demon to race, it's going to need all the advantages it can get.

:blah

Good food for thought on the gaskets. I ran cometics when I first built my Duster motor but leaked like a seive after 4 different install/reinstalls using different tecniques. They put a bad taste in my mouth and swore them off especially the price I paid for them. Thats why I went with coppers. I was hoping to get away with a composite/laminate on this and lots of race guys use 'em with more squeeze than this but yeah, perhaps they are a different animal. Not so sure now.
