Subframe connectors or not? Give me some reasons. I am 99% sure they are going in the duster this weekend. Just curious why other people are or are not using them.
Probably going to use 2x2 or 2x3 steel, cut the floor and frame and tuck it up nice and tight.
Should add about 30-35lbs.
When I added them to the Scamp the change was impressive. I am trying to figure out other than the weight, why wouldn't I want them?
Brian

I'm thinking anything that makes the chassis more rigid will increase the hit on the tires.

Thats exactly what I was thinking.
Our mopar club went to a chassis shop for a "field trip" last meeting. I was explaining to one of the chassis guys about the class, tires we have to run, etc. He basically said this:

If the chassis is more rigid, then when power is transferred to the rear wheels via the driveshaft, it can be more evenly transferred by the leaf springs to the front of the car, effectively making the "instant center" farther towards the front of the car which should make it "hit" the tires softer.
If the chassis is flexible, it is absorbing the power, flexing and twisting and buckling which in turn can not only make the car react slower, but not plant the tires evenly and firmly.
A firm chassis will plant the tires evenly and firmly, which should make even a marginal tire grip better.

I may have not explained it quite right, but it makes sense to me.

To me the principle is the same as a torque strap on the motor. You eliminate "flex" in the driveline. Whether it breaks the tires loose easier or not, I found it does... :shrug But sub frames could be a different animal...

I can see wanting a little flex in the driveline area. The other thing that got me thinking this guy knew what he was talking about was the fact of what cars are 60' the best in the class?
All the cars that have roll bars?
Ed has dipped in the 1.6's? Dave D 1.6's? Joel? What other Mopar guy runs a bar? Whats the best 60' Dave Finn has gotten with the Maxie? I am curious if it will do better with the bar installed? Is there ANY car mopar or not that has better than a 1.73 60' without a bar?
I know Ralphs car for sure makes the power to do it, and he has the biggest tires also.
Maybe there is something to a tighter chassis?

Install them, make a pass, cut thru them with a cordless sawzall in the pits and make another pass. Only way to be sure. 8)

Brian the rolebar will tie the complete chassis together just like the frame connectors would.

lol. Imagine if I actually did that.

I realize that the rollbar will do much of the same stiffening, but something about tieing the rear of the chassis to the front of the chassis directly in front of spring hanger just seems like a good idea to me.

I'm gonna go pick the steel up today. I guess we will find out how the car works, hopefully this year some time. If it won't 60' for $hit, I can always bring my holesaw out of retirement for another go around. lol
