When building a stroker engine, that sounds "stock"... Is there any formula or accepted rule of thumb to get you in the ball park?

I know a cam in say a 350 that has a noticeable idle, will be somewhat "soaked up" by say a 400+ cubic inch stroker.

I have access to Crane Cams, they are fairly local to me. Haven't had time to bounce ideas off of my contacts there yet. Just trying to work things out for a future build, and would like to draw a box around some basic cam specs so I can compare to the catalog lobes available to me.

I find myself still trying to answer this question. It is far too expensive to "try" something and see if it works - in terms of making power and passing tech.

Right now I have a pile of parts and a build in mind. Need to find some people willing to let me bounce ideas off of them.

I am thinking I will need something 115-117 LSA with a wide split on the duration to work with the restricted exhaust system. While still sounding like a "stock" LS5 at idle. I'm just trying to work out the math of, if I increase the cubic inches by X%... what % can I safely increase the lift and duration without it sounding like a popcorn machine at idle?
