:agree It is amazing how the time goes faster as it gets closer. Now that I have had some time to go through my car, is like peeling an onion. Just layer after layer of things to do.
 On the motor there were a host of issues all minor but all adds up. New distributor cap I put on last year had a crack, floats had to be adjusted on the carb, timing issues, install an electric vacuum pump and catch can out of site and mind. Also installed an air/fuel ratio gauge. Having one of my friends modify an origional set of valve covers to fit over my rocker arms which will not be ready for this weekend. Suspension new lower front control arm bushings, new idler arm, reseal the slave cylinder for the power steering. Went through the rear an discovered a cracked and pratically nonexistent torque arm which I just got this Monday which caused me to miss a chance on a chassis dyno for last Thursday. :( Then there was the one broken rear shock, and to body bushings that needed to be changed which I discovered last night. Parts will not be in till tomorrow. In addition to the above got new tires through Ralph :bow great price with new steel rims. This way for regular street cruising I will still use the origional 8 X 14 type tires versus the polyglass for the track. :blah

That being said with the above, I will be pulling the trailer out tomorrow to go through to make sure that is ready. :sick

In the end still looking forward to Saturday which should be an improvement with hopefully more to come this season. :beer

I like all of this talk here. Im new and my name is Trey from west orange NJ.
That's the thing with classics right. Even when it's done there is always things that need a bit a tweaking. I went in for the basic spring, clean up, fluids timing and new shocks, rear springs, brake pads tires etc. had a bit of hesitation going into second, some knocking where going slow around making a turn. Posi unit was bad so had to replace, along with that had to get a set of gears also 3.08 I think.
It had a 2.6 or something in it with a 12 bolt rear which I think may have been orginal.

Tires are 255 60 r/15 rear went with BFG radial T/a
Fronts 205 17 r 14

This is the last thing I need to be ready to join you guys for the first time
Though the rebuilt process over the last few years have learned about these great cars.
If I could wrench a bit more I would be in better shape but learning. My dad always wanted this car to run good but never really had a chance to enjoy it complete before passing.
With these last final touches and a chance to join you
Guys on the track with the car for the first time and feel good that it can perform.
I never was really confident that the car would run well being 42 plus years old and things just would break down on me.

My pop did a great job on the exterior build but not much on the engine.
I got it like this not knowing much about cars
Image

Looks like this now underneath, after many things failing on me but it's pretty reliable now.

Look foward to meeting you all and learning from
The pros. I'm still a bit green so bear with me.
Trey

Trey, its fun no matter how fast you go, just get down the track reliably, get familiar, and make the needed upgrades as time goes on to fit your ET goals!

You will love it!

I had a problem last year with my race motor, so i dropped a street motor that was fortunately sitting in my barn,
In For the last 2 races, and had just as much fun!

It is all good Trey. Nothing like the last minute pressure to get things done. Took my car out last night and she ran like a champ, now tonight we gave it a couple of shots by my shop and we think it fuel pump or rod took a dump. Making some noise where we think with the stethoscope it is coming from, but after a long day of work today we will revisit tomorrow.

Got the car back yesterday it's running great. The rear end cost me a bit more but everything is new pretty new. Have taken the route of replace it if it's old or acts up. The dif was an area that really has not been touched.it was time and better before it goes. I have kind of learned things as they get replaced. New posi, 3.08 gears, bearings pretty much everything In there outside of axles etc. Last year did the disc break conversion front and rear. Gas tank, fuel lines, radiator, magaflow exhaust etc. engine rebuild earlier before I came back to NJ from miami.

Now added hawk pads, new eyb shocks, replaced the rear springs with eaton with 2 in lift.
The 15inch rear tires I like alot. The handling and ride is so much better than the old air shocks I had.

The last issue I still have is when I replaced the alternator a few years ago it looks like the pully maybe alittle tight for the belt. On hard exeleration
sometimes I get a belt scwheel sound. The belt groves don't look like it fits all the way down into the grove so it skids a little and you hear some slipping. Everything is tight but just not a perfect match. Gonna look for another pully if not may have some sound.

Will see. If you have advice on this one let me know.

I also had to replace the main a/c hose. I kept losing coolent and having to recharge every season. I guess its the love of old cars. I cannot wait for the day that everything is always good. I think I'm close. I'm not seeing many old parts anymore! Does it ever end?
