Rhett/Shawn: Yesterday's 63 Nova is hardly a Muscle Car. Available only with a straight 6. In 64 a 283 was available but only a 2bbl 195hp but in 65 a 220hp 283 4bbl and two 327's a 250hp and MOPAR eating 300hp version. This last combo could devour just about anything less than 7 liters during it's time except a 425hp Vette.

Hey pipe down you! :moon Nothing kills a good story faster than the facts! :runaway I wonder how much lighter a 65 nova is compared to your bel air. What's the apprx CID limit for SBC. You can't stroke them like SB mopar due to crank/cam centerlines right? Mid to high 400's? Wasn't there a solid lifter motor 365 horse 327?

Rhett, you can get 434 ci out of a SBC fairly easy. IIRC - the 365 HP version of the 327 was only available in Corvettes and full size cars. (Impala, Belair, Biscayne)

To me, a 70' Nova COPO LT1 clone with a 434 dressed as an LT1 350 would be the bees knees for a GM small block entry. A 66'-67' 327 L79 Chevy II and a 65' Malibu 327 L79 would be great candidates as well. When I was in high school, my father had a 65' Malibu 300, (non deluxe), 2 door post car. It was very light, and ran like a scalded dog with the 355 he had in it. (Brodix track I's, solid roller cam, etc.)

In circa 1996, I handed some fool in a 94'-ish Viper his ass in traffic. I guess the exhaust note of a high compression, solid roller SBC wasn't enough of a warning for what would happen next.

Hey, someone has to be the voice of reason amoungst all this madness. That 65 Chevy II would be just about 1000Lbs lighter than my sled. The factory small block can go out to about 413 cu in max I am told. A Dart block with standard deck height can go to 434 cu in. which I am sure the Committee will approve for use. Right?

The 365 HP only came in the Vette but it is pretty much the same as the 350 hp 327 that came in the 66 Chevy II and Chevelle. I still say the best Supercar Chevy small block combo would be the 275 hp 67 Chevy II with the 750 cfm QJet and glide. Could be a solid mid 11 second car without too much trouble.

Ok I finally realized why the score is
Team mopar 5
Team GM. 0

Institutional momentum! Mopar has been dominating GM for years it is almost impossible to overcome that momentum! :stir :moon and don't get discouraged by the fact that of the five cars almost all were GM

Almost, I had to make a decision, the fuel mileage on the highway is killing me. If I plan on making it to all the races I really need to put the 3.23's back in. So that's whats in there. :shrug :pop
