Howdy all! A couple of the cars I'm looking at are from 1973 or 1974. The exhaust manifolds have some tubing that comes off them that connects into some type of cylindrical thing. This isn't even including the emissions pump below the power steering pump. There's a picture below that shows what I'm talking about. It's the thing right above the PS cap. Does all this have to be included on the engine? I didn't see anything in the stock rules about emissions parts. Thanks!

Take all that emissions crap off.

Thanks! So, would I just weld up the emissions holes on the manifolds then?

And I'm not sure how I got the picture on there twice...

I would attempt to plug any holes I could so things would be reversable down the road. So what 401 equipped car are we looking at?

I'm looking at a couple cars right now, but the one I currently have that may work is my Matador coupe. It's a 77, but it's pretty much the same thing as a 74, so I was thinking of turning it into a 401-powered 74 clone. Since I already have the car and a 401 (or 2), it wouldn't be that hard to put together. I just need to get the correct intake and carb. I think I already have the correct exhaust manifolds.

I'd really like to get a Javelin, but the Matador may work for now. Then, when it's restored, I can use my SC/360!

A guy that lives on the street behind me is working on one of those mid '70's Matador coupes. Not sure what year but it appears to have the factory aluminum slot wheels on it.

I would think that you could find a lot of ways to loose some weight on such a build. I like different and you can't get much more different than a mid '70's Matador. I like the concept. One of the MOPAR engine builders, Indy I think, had a discounted built AMC engine for sale in their ad in MOPAR Collector's Guide but I think it was a small block.
