Post subject:  A newbe with a question

Another newbe here, and I'm looking for some help right off the manifold.
I am looking at a 1964 dodge Polara 500, Golden Anniversary, automatic with a street wedge. The car is super clean, and I am told it is the original engine, tranny, rear, etc. I can see the undercarrage, and it looks original and unmolested. Everything else has been restored and looks like new. The final thing is the bumpers are being rechromed and they should be back and installed next week.
My questions are: How can I assure myself that it is an original power train, and what would you guess a fair price would be. I realize a fair price is what ever makes the buyer and seller happy, but I would rather be a little happier than he ends up.
The car is gold/gold, and while I'm not crazy about the color, I wouldn't change it.
thanks gang, and good to be with you.

Thanks for the help Ralpph, I appreciate it.
I am waiting for the seller to get back to me with pictures of the completed car, and we will go from there. Did you (or anyone) see anything that appears not to be original to the car? I don't mean replaced, rather don't belong with this model? Any thyoughts of a reasonable price on this if it is an original street wedge? Did you receive the engine pictures?
Thanks again Ralph.

Sunger, That's a nice clean looking car, by looking at the photos, how's the engine bay, headliner, engine, trans, brakes, exhaust, front suspension, etc. It is definitly worth going to look at, Quality of the body and paint you need to see in person, Price is a tough question, the economy, try to check other places, E Bay Motors, Cars on line, Hemmings Motor News, Craigs List, Old Cars Weekly, Carlisle All-Chrysler Nationals July 8-10, etc. 2008 Collector Car Price Guide says a number 1 car is $16,500 add 75% for 426 street wedge, add 100% for 426 Ramcharger, add 30% for Polara 500 option, so that means the book says $21,450 with a 383 engine, then again books don't buy cars, I do know you can't buy a rat to restore and have less money in it.Good luck :aok

Thanks for the help. The engine has, according to the seller just been rebuilt, as has everything else. He wouldn't lie to me would he? :) I'm waiting for the completed pictures, and then I'll make an offer contingent upon an inspection. Whether I hire someone to inspect or go back myself is up in the air right now. I'd rather hire someone than spend the $$ for air, hotel, etc. We'll see.
Thanks
S.
