Hello, my name is Kurt. I came to this site to check out the cars and get information on tips for rebuilding my motor and chassis tuning.

Here is a little info on my car:

It's a real 1969 SS 396 Deluxe Post Sedan. It has 40k miles on it. It's Lemans Blue with Medium Blue Ransom Cloth interior. This was a Chicago car that was raced at Union Grove and probably on the street. None of the drivetrain is original. The motor is a warranty CE 402 block. It's a bench seat 4-speed car. The rear is a 12 bolt 3:73 Posi out of a '72 Chevelle.

My goal is to keep the Day 2 racing heritage going which is what a lot of guys did the 2nd day after owning the car, aftermarket headers, wheels/tires, intake, carb etc...

Kurt :-D

Kurt, that's a sweet chevelle. For a while, I had a lust for chevelle's especially the big block cars. I like the color and sedan/post feature which really gives that sleeper/tough look.

later, Juan.

Juan, thanks for the compliments. I just bought is about a year ago and have been having a lot of fun with it. A little restoring and a little driving. As of right now the motor is out and I am rebuilding it....or something. :shrug

Oooooo, rebuilding the motor, that's my favorite part of messing with old muscle cars...rebuilding the motors. Swing for the fences man because those Mopars guys are tough to beat but don't forget about the Olds guys either, they'll sneak up on ya too. They be fast too man. Just kidding :-D You gotta go with what you can afford :rock

A quick update on the new motor. I ended up using the 402 (+.040) CE block that was in the car, GM 396 cast iron crank, GM 3/8" HD rods, Ross custom pistons, Crane Cams XR274 solid roller cam (.647/.640 lift. 242/236 duration at .050. Lobe seperation is 110), Endure-X solid roller lifters, Smith Brothers 7/16" X .090 push rods, 14011077 aluminum heads, 3933163 stock intake, and a 780 v/s carb.

Here is a picture of the motor and of the car at Byron Dragway in Byron, IL.

Shawn, I made 7 passes on the new motor at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI. My best time was 13.14 at 107. There were a lot of issues going on with the car...me and the timing lights. My biggest problem was wheel hop.

During the next few weeks I purchased QA1 12 position adjustable gas shocks and learned how to stagger the jets. I went to Byron making 4 passes. I ran a 13.15 and a 13.04. The 3rd run I made was a 2.05 60' and the run felt great. When I picked up the time slip my 1/4 mile time was .484 and nothing for MPH. I found out later that a leaf or something blew over the last timing light just as I took off which sucked because that was a 12.80ish run. My 4th run was 12.91 at 108 mph with a 2.15 60'.

This is on Mickey Thompson Indy Profile L60-14 bias-ply street tires, full exhaust (w/headers), Muncie 4-Speed, 12 bolt w/3.73 gears, front sway bar still attached and very little seat time at the track. I personally have only raced a car down a 1/4 mile track a 20 times or so with 11 of them in this car.

Kurt :aok

That a good lookin' car, nice job on the last pass. I too run a chevelle and still tryin to work out the bugs in the rear suspension. Get no- hop bars, soft springs, and have the pinion angle checked. I'm in the same boat, tryin to get my thing too hook. Did you have it on a chassis dyno,? it might no be a bad idea... keep us posted :aok

Hey Kurt,
I'm from the other side of thr GM camp. Glad to see you found us. This past year I just counted I made 95 passes with my 69 H/O and 75 of them with SuoerCar. This really is the place to be. Ralph treats everyone the same and fairly. I have been racing with Ralph for the past 6 years and started at 14.8 and now I'm been down to 12.62 @ 108 mph. Now realize I have an origianl 69 H/O 1 of 906 and I can't cut it up or make major changes. I enjoy racing with SuperCar very much and hope to meet you in the spring!!!!!!! Right now I'm in the middle of a Mopar frenzy. Need Help!!!

John
