tell us more about the car!

Thanks...

Its one of 217 Hemi 4 speed GTX's in 68. Its about as plain as a GTX can get console delete. Buddy seat, manual steering and brakes. Hemi is fresh off the Dyno. 505hp/495Trq...(solid roller)still needs some more tuning. 68 warranty block 4 months after build date of car. Dana 3:54, I do have another Dana set up with 4:10 I'm thinking of putting in the car..If the rules let me? 95% date coded from carbs, intake, heads, exhuast manfolds, radiator, only thing out side of stock is a Malloroy dual point dist, and a RobMCC starter, Oh yeah Firecore stock looking wires. Not a high end resto..it was done so within my means and to drive.. I'm "Hemi Broke" lOl! so its time to have a little fun.. the great thing is the wife is starting to like going to the track. My best ET so far in 1/8 on street radials is 8.42@87mph

Okay Ralph, I'll bring the polyglas tires. I'm going to see if I can make a few passes up here with them as I havent yet.. What would be the approx. Tire pressure for the rears?

nice!
put the 4.10 in and get the polys on and go have a blast!

you'll be glad you did it.

the 1/4 will be so much more fun with that hemi liking the top end better!

will you make lebanon valley on the 18th?

Thanks Ted,
I know that putting the 4:10's in would be the biggest improvement I could do right now. I know in the 1/8 the last 100ft before the stripe the hemi comes alive..I cant wait for the 1/4 I'm hoping for high 12's. also congrads on you new record setting ET!! with a :drive :aok If I can be in 2 yrs where your at right now I would very Happy!

Hi Rick, Mike here thats a nice lookin' car and would be very suprised if that is not a 12.70 car,by the way the hp-torque figures sound. Good luck and hope too see ya at "the valley". Mike D. '71 chevelle ss 14.21@98.37

Rick,
Really nice GTX. I own a 68 as well (440) that was the same paint (is now Dark Blue). I chuckled when I read your description of how stripped your Gettix is as well. Mine also only has buddy seat, 4 speed, light package and AM radio. I always wondered why the original owner just didn't buy a road runner?

Good luck in the series. You'll enjoy it!!

Thanks carguy
Maybe he didnt like the Beep Beep horn?? Or the cartoon roadrunner on the side of the car?? I call it my roadrunner with GTX emblems.. :shrug You often wonder why people did what they did, when ordering a car the way they wanted it. So I figure the guy that ordered it, wanted to go fast and have his girlfriend next to him! thats why the buddy seat.lol! This GTX works for me as I like the poverty look.

Nice car Rick.

Best suggestion I can offer is to get the polyglas on and hit the track. Get some seat time (and stick time since you are rowing a 4 speed) and see how it goes. No sence making changes yet.

Thanks Chris,
I guess the only question I have is what air pressure I should start off with the Poly's.

Congads on your Fastest small block title! :cheers

I don't know if anybody pinned down any rhyme or reason to pressures. I had best luck with 26 psi and got me a 1.74 60'. Others have had luck with much more and much less. Its one of those things where you will simply have to pick a starting point and play around trying to find the best pressure.

Front tires 45PSI rear tires 30PSI to start, a little wieght in the trunk 50LBS.. Do a nice rolling burnout :drive and check the tire pattern. Go up if the tires are heavy on the outer edges. Go down if the center is heavy and no outer edge touch.
