I do like the look of the Torino, even if it's a little bit on the porky side. The problem with choosing a Ford project is either weight or lack of a good cylinder head. I considered doing an 70 M-Code (351 Cleveland 4V), but I think 393 - 408 cubes is about max. FE powered cars (390, 427, 428) are relatively light, but the heads don't flow so well and blocks are so-so. The 71 coupe is the lightest body for a 429. So there you have it.

By the way, the white coupe featured above was originally sold out of Monaco Ford in Glastonbury. They only made a handful of CJ Mustangs equipped this way - all business!

Welcome aboard!. Blue ovals are definitely scarce in SuperCars and we need to get some racing with us. I have always loved the '71 Mustang fastback's looks and a notch-back like the white one in the photo screams sleeper. Good luck with the build and keep us posted. I am bugging my brother to get his '69 Cougar 351W back together and to the track with us.

I could be wrong, but I would think it would cost much less to acquire a basic Torino body than a Mustang shell. If it is a basic car you might not feel badly trimming weight off it. It might provide some needed rear wheel traction as well. Plus they look cool. :2c

I wouldn't turn down a nice one if somebody's got one cheap (or free!) :-D
In addition to the weight factor, everything is cheaper and easier to come by for a mustang. What you might save in initial outlay might end up costing a lot more in the end. I guess it will come down to what I find and how much work it needs. I just spent a year and a half on another project and I don't want another basket case. It would be nice to find one that doesn't need much body wise. I'll take my time and look around and keep accumulating parts in the mean time.

Hey I am new here too. I am from the Dutchess County NY area. I am currently buildin a 65 Falcon Gasser. She will be a small block for now. However I removed the shock towers to make room for a future BB. Plan on racing the old girl ...probably another year before she is ready. I will get all my pics together and post some. Yep currently Ford but love em all ..I have had Chevy and Mopar. Just love em loud and fast !!

Could the Falcon Gasser run against the altered wheelbase cars?
