hi folks. my name is david byrd. i have followed the year one f.a.st. for some time. and this supercar shootout looks pretty cool as well. i am a long time mopar fan, and have owned over 100 various mopars in the past 20 years. i have a few on hand now, most important of which at the moment is my latest project. i am starting on my own entry into the f.a.s.t./supercar classes. i am building a 70 challenger r/t 383/4-spd car. i already have the engine-trans-rear planned out,the rest will merely be restoration. luckily i am starting with a 95% rust free car. before long the body will be off to a local media blaster and i can get this deal underway.

yeah, i have raced off and on over the years, brackets at local tracks, nothing major. i had initially planned out the car to be FC7 plum crazy, but, seems there are alot of challengers in that configuration. so, i am going to repaint the car in it's original (read odd and rare) color of VL1 beige (i think chart calls it pebblestone) with the black vinyl top and black bucket seat guts. the car actually started life as a challenger deputy, 318/3-spd,manual steering,brakes,non-air car. whats funny is the car is like one of 1200 (have to look at galen's white book to refresh my memory) so, i am sure there is a purist somewhere that is gonna be screaming. lol. to add to the look i am going with painted steelies, a set of the stainless dog dish caps, and F-60 polyglas gt's. as for the engine, well, lets just say i have alot of work ahead of me. i am using a motorhome 400 block, a 4.250 stroke crank, extensive work on a set of 915's,and ALOT of extrude-hone work. i am going with a custom ground hydraulic roller cam for this build.i plan on shifting this thing at about 7000-7200 rpm. i have a gentleman here that build 4-spds for some NHRA competitors and he says there are alot of tricks to do to my 833. i will run the 8 3/4 with 3.55 gears. thats about all i can think of at the moment. what do y'all think?

sounds like a good combo in a plain brown wrapper!
i like it!

make sure you read all the rules and work with in them.
there are some gray areas that allow for wiggle room,
but if you have any questions just ask, we have a great bunch of guys.

Ralph has those wedge motors pretty well figured out. You might want to consider his technical input to enhance the learning curve. And just my opinion, but 7000+ RPM shifts into second gear on a good track could be a little rough on 8.75 u-joints. But I'm old and antiquated, so maybe there are some new concepts now to render that concern obsolete.

Speaking of antiques, are those original cast-aluminum, American Racing "Daisy" wheels stacked up on the floor? Cool- and I thought I was the only misfit running those wheels anymore.

Hello and welcome aboard Dave........
That sounds like quite a rare rocket.
I cannot wait to see this monster shifting
over 7000 rpm's!! That will be quite a site to
see!!!
I was reading your recipe and thats quite a
machine.......
You are going to need to research those heads
a little more before you dump the big bucks
into them, that is a '67 only head, and as the rules
go, you have to stick with the correct year heads.
You may want to contact the rules committee,
and find out just whats accepted in that department.
Sure would hate to see money wasted.......
Good luck to you, and here's a chart by year for
casting numbers.........Darrell

the rule: 2.03 Cylinder Heads and Intake Manifold MUST be correct OEM casting, have correct original casting numbers and be of correct original material.

Dave,
Here is the rule I was looking for........
and with a machine like yours to be....
Its gonna fall under this rule!!

(of course, having a '67, I will always
take those 915 heads off your hands... LOL)

Darrell

17.03 SuperCars Running 11.70 or quicker may be asked to remove valve covers to check casting numbers.

thats cool,if need be,i have atleast 5 pairs of 906's and 5 or 6 pairs of 452's sitting on the shelf. so i can work the hell out of a set of 906's. i have 3 pairs of 68-71 magnum manifolds to work with as well. couple of correct 69-70 intakes too. and yes, those are the original cast cp 200s daisy mags on the floor. i have an original set of 15X8.5 AR torq-thrust originals on my big 73 C-body polara custom wagon.

Hi Dave welcome to the Board and SuperCars :D Make yourself comfortable. You have one great car. I love your combo ideas and the color  . The Guys all gave you great pointers. Feel free at anytime to call me 860 416-1228. For Your build you may want to consider Porter Racing Heads for your head porting needs. He knows the class very well and will give you the best bang for your buck. You can also call Nick @ Compu-Flow as well as Mike form HP Motors they all understand the class very well. Last year I built a stroker 400 for Johns 1970 Bee It's best ever to date is 12.10 @ 113 MPH. The Bee has way more in it. (And Harry is making a Bee line for the record in '09) The Bee is dual purpose Cruiser / Racers.

Again, Welcome and call when ever you want.
