My name is Chris and my friend Brian introduced me to the world of Super Car Races. I have a 1989 mustang coupe that I was going to put an LS1 with a Powerglide in, but have since started selling off all the parts to get a 1966-1967 Fairlane 390 GT or GTA. I have sold some of the parts (motor, transmission) and have $3000 with the actual car to sell still. I will be selling the rolling chassis for around $5200 since it's already set up for drag racing and has about $8k in just the roller. My dad promised me a 67 XL500 fairlane he had for my first car 17 years ago but ended up selling it and I have wanted one ever since. I'm 32 now and have a daughter that I would like to take with me to car shows and it's hard to fit a baby set in the back of an 89 coupe with an 8 point roll cage. So after paying off some of the debt I have from this car I should have about $6000-6500 to buy a car. So for now I will just be reading and learning from the fellow members on the forum.

I am the a-hole friend that suggested he build a car like this. We're childhood friends of almost 30 years, and he loved that ratty old Fairlane his dad had back in the mid 90s. It seems only fitting that he find a project car and do it right.

Welcome aboard. We need more Fords, get tired of slapping around GM all the time. Like clubbing baby seal. :stir :hungry :pop :runaway :hungry

This will be a factory/pure stock build like my Chevelle. Not an easy car to build. Very little definitive information or reference photos available. Not to mention a lack of restoration parts. Right now we are trying to find good photos of a factory 390 car engine bay. Shock tower details, etc. Ideally, he wants to buy a factory 390 car. But, if a crazy deal comes on a 289 car - we want to be able to scoop it up and make the needed changes to install a correct 390.

If there are any Ford guys lurking out there that can help, please don't hesitate to speak up! :aok

Welcome & what a great plan. For part of the time I was growing up my mother drove a '67 or '68 Fairlane coupe with a 289. Good luck with your selling and searching.

He sold the fox body roller today, so that gave him a good chunk of change. Can get more serious about finding a car now. Have found a few, but they either sold or are no longer for sale now that he has enough money set aside. (go figure) It's OK, cash is king & time is on his side. If anyone has a lead on a car, holler!

Just browsed there and sent a few links. I told him that he is going to have to be checking daily, and be ready to jump in the car and go look.

Well even though wrong tranny nice car though. I will say any worked FE block which I think have been underrated in those cars will fly. They were relatively light cars for that age. Looking foward to when you come across one and when it makes it to the track. :rock :rock :aok

Well, no Fairlane... but he did get a crackhead deal on a 72' LeMans 2dr hardtop today. Plans are to build a LeMans GT tribute with a 400 and a 4 speed. :drive The car is VERY solid, and too good to pass up. Has a nice factory endura nose and sport mirrors. Factory AC, PDB, PS, Rally II's. Has a hair over 63K miles on it, last on the road in 1989. We'll be starting to tear it down and assess the car some more tomorrow.
